Neighbours star Caitlin Stacey has discussed her career as a director of pornography which she said can be "intense".

The actress played Rachel Kinksi on the Aussie soap from 2005 to 2009 but surprised fans when she announced a career as an adult film director in 2021.

As well as a director, the 32-year-old is also a writer at the female-owned pornography studio Afterglow.

Speaking on the I've Got News for You podcast, the ex-soap star shed some light on what it's like working in that industry.

"The content is pretty intense, but it runs just like any other film set,' she explained.

"The sets tend to be really inclusive. There's a lot of women. In fact, I think there are more female directors in pornography than there are in mainstream film and television."

The Australian actress added: "As an actor, your job is to come in… You have control over such a small portion of this massive enterprise.

"And when you're the director, you are judge, jury and executioner."

The Smile star also explained what inspired her to write and direct her 2021 lesbian porn film titled, Eau de P***y, which she released nine months after announcing her new career.

The Reign actress said: "It's as if they're written by an algorithm on another planet,' she said. 'But they're always so sexy and it always feels like sex is about to happen – everyone's sniffing each other's necks and licking each other's wrists.

"So I kind of came up with the concept of a a perfume commercial that then becomes a lesbian threesome."

Despite soaring to fame with her role in Neighbours, Caitlin's breakthrough role came when she was cast a Francesca 'Frankie Thomas' in children's TV series, The Sleepover Club in 2003.

Her first major film role came in 2010's Tomorrow, When the War Began in which she played the titular role of Ellie Linton.
