Neighbours fans slam 'disgraceful' NTAs after axed soap is snubbed | The Sun
SOME of the box's major soaps went head-to-head last night during the National Television Awards.
Neighbours fans were left livid when their favourite show was snubbed in favour of Emmerdale.
The Yorkshire-based ITV program was competing against the Aussie soap as well as rival shows EastEnders and Coronation Street.
It was eventually crowned best serial drama, as announced by Boy George during the star-studded NTA ceremony – which had been delayed due to the death of Her Majesty The Queen.
But as they watched Emmerdale stars go on stage to collect their gong, fuming Neighbours fans swarmed over to social media.
"Heartbroken we couldn’t win it for Neighbours! So deserved", one of them wrote while another agreed: "Neighbours should have been recognised. Disgraceful."

"Stayed up in hope that Neighbours would win!!! They should’ve won", another commented.
One soap viewer chimed in: "Neighbours was robbed."
"Upset that Neighbours never won the NTAs they deserved it the most the other soaps can win it any other time as they are still running!!", another echoed.
"Even though I love Emmerdale and the other UK soaps, Neighbours really has been phenomenal and deserved that award!!! At least Neighbours will always be winners in our hearts", one final fan complained.

Channel 5 and fans of the Australian show have had an emotional year as Neighbours was cancelled earlier in 2022.
The axed show missed out on its 40th birthday by just three years as it first aired in 1985.
Production of the show ceased in June, 2022, due to Channel 5 refusing to air the program in the UK.
With producer Fremantle unable to secure an alternative funder for the show, Neighbours stars had no other choice but to wave goodbye.

Neighbours' final scenes aired on July 30, 2022, and featured the highly-anticipated returns of many big household names who have had their start on the show.
These included Guy Pearce, Margot Robbie and Kylie Minogue.
Meanwhile, Emmerdale is set to celebrate five decades of drama with an hour-long special due on our screens on Sunday, October 16, 2022.
