Neighbours final episode date revealed as iconic Aussie soap ends after 37 years

It’s official, Neighbours fans will bid goodbye to Ramsay Street for the final time on Friday July 29th, as Channel 5 airs the last ever episode of the popular Aussie soap.

The iconic show that treated us to swoon worthy romances from Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue, plummeted Hollywood actor Guy Pearce to stardom and introduced the world to other celebrity favourites such as singer Delta Goodrem and House MD actor Jesse Spencer will finally bow out after more than 37 years of captivating audiences around the world.

The news was first announced back in February after Freemantle Media, the production company behind the show, failed to find another network to pick it up, after a deal with Channel 5 fell through.

Originally, the soap aired on BBC One in the UK, with it taking up both an early afternoon and teatime slot on the channel until 2008.

It was then, after a staggering 21 year on the BBC, that the show moved to Channel 5, after the network agreed to co-fund the production with Aussie broadcaster Ten, something that the BBC themselves were unwilling to do.

In its new home on Channel 5, the show continued to maintain its popularity, with many long standing fans of the soap left heartbroken by the news of its cancellation.

Rather than ending the show abruptly, a series of special closing episodes were filmed to help round off the series, which includes bringing back famous faces from the past such as pop superstar Kylie Minogue, stage legend Jason Donovan, veteran actor Ian Smith and even 00’s favourites, Morgan Baker and Natalie Bassingthwaite.

Hoping to appeal to fans across the generations whether they tuned in to the very first episode back in 1985 or came to love the show during it’s most recent Channel 5 run, the show’s producers have promised that the finale will give the characters we know and love the send off they deserve.

Neighbours ’ Executive Producer, Jason Herbison, said: "Whether the eighties, nineties, noughties or teens is your favourite decade, we will be delivering something for everyone as Neighbours draws to a close.

"Alongside the current cast we will be celebrating the most memorable characters from across many eras, with a few surprises up our sleeve."

Fans will be able to watch the final ever episode of Neighbours on Channel 5 in the usual time slots of 1:45pm and 6pm on Friday July 29th.

A final history-making episode will then air as a double episode special at 9pm, the same evening.
