It has been confirmed hit Australian soap Neighbours will return for a brand new series later this year. Star of the show, Stefan Dennis sat down with Good Morning Britain on Tuesday to spill the beans on the reboot.

The famous Aussie soap had been cancelled by Channel 5 last year after 37 seasons on air.

Stefan Dennis has been with the show since the start playing the cold-hearted businessman Paul Robinson, elder brother of Scott Robinson.

Producers ended the season with a special 150th finale episode starring several former famous cast members including Hollywood actress Margot Robbie.

Two more famous faces that returned for the finale were singer Kylie Minogue and actor Jason Donovan.

The pair originally starred in the show from 1986 to 1989 as love interests Charlene Mitchell and Scott Robinson before leaving to pursue other opportunities.

Discussing Kylie and Jason’s time on the show, Stefan said: “Kylie and Jason’s wedding is probably still the iconic moment of Neighbours.”

Charlene and Scott’s time together on the show culminated in this wedding episode, viewed by approximately 20 million viewers in the UK.

Stefan joked: “The saying goes that there were as many people watching the wedding over here as there was the population of Australia.”

When Jason and Kylie returned for the finale their characters were still happily married and Charlene was dressed in her signature overalls.

In another hark back to their original time on the show Kylie’s character attempted to climb through the window at No.24 in the same way she had in her very first first scene.

After the star studded finale aired it was revealed Amazon Freevee had decided to pick up the show and would be airing a brand new series in 2023.

As the only remaining original cast member, Stefan thinks it will be “interesting” to see what storylines the rebooted soap will use.

Asked if there was any chance Jason and Kylie would return to the Amazon reboot, Stefan said: “Never say never is what I say. Look what’s happened with the show.”

Numerous familiar faces are already lining up to return to the show including Alan Fletcher and Jackie Woodburne who play Karl and Jackie Kennedy.

The Kennedy family have played a central part in Neighbours over the years and Jackie was even given a monologue in the final scenes of the last Channel 5 show.

Their returns were announced in a social media teaser clip in November along with Stefan Dennis.

On Amazon Freevee, fans are now able to watch the full series back catalog while they wait for new episodes later this year.

This gives a new generation a chance to fall in love with the cult series and the characters of Ramsay Street.

Lauren Anderson from Amazon Studios said: “With the power of streaming, we’re able to offer a catalog of thousands of Neighbours episodes for new audiences to discover this legendary series and current fans to relive their favourite moments.”

Filming for the new series is expected to begin soon with the series set to air in late 2023, so viewers won’t have to wait long.
