Nicky’s days are numbered as raging Gabby issues dangerous warning in Emmerdale

When the identity of the person who pushed Caleb Milligan (William Ash) off a ridge in Emmerdale was revealed, it was perhaps not all that surprising that the attacker turned out to be Nicky (Lewis Cope), Caleb’s son.

Plenty of people had the opportunity and certainly the motive to want to kill Caleb. While waging a secret war against Kim Tate (Claire King) he’d also managed to alienate Cain (Jeff Hordley) and Moira (Natalie J. Robb) as well as Leyla (Roxy Shahidi), Mackenzie (Lawrence Robb) and of course Kim herself. But Nicky had suffered a lot for the sake of Caleb’s plan.

Caleb manipulated him into believing that his mum could lose her house and they needed Kim’s money to stop that from happening. He also pressured Nicky into marrying Gabby (Rosie Bentham) as part of the plan, even after he found out that Nicky is gay and had a chance of happiness with a man called Ally (Josh Horrocks).

Despite all this, when Nicky turned up at Caleb’s bedside he was sorry for what he’d done.

‘I think the moment he pushes him, he feels massive regret,’ Lewis Cope told us. ‘He’s felt as though his dad’s manipulated him for so long and obviously betrayed him. But he still loves his dad, and it would be tragic if he was to die.’

We now know that Caleb didn’t die, and after making Nicky sweat a bit father and son were reconciled. Nicky decided to move in with Caleb at Mill Cottage.

In Monday (June 26)’s episode, Nicky needed a few bits of shopping, which meant seeking out the delights of David (Matthew Wolfenden)’s shop. Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) was in charge of the till and he was also in charge of being surly to unwelcome newcomers – at least the ones who’d ‘screwed over’ his friends.

‘Better get used to it,’ Nicky said, ‘Now that I’ve moved in with my dad.’

Gabby, also after a few bits from David’s well-stocked shelves was not happy when she came in and overheard that.

‘It’s bad enough I had to be played and publicly humiliated by him,’ she told Jacob after Nicky had left clutching his packet of biscuits. ‘Now I’ve got to see him every day.’

It wasn’t long before she paid a visit to Mill Cottage. Nicky offered to put the kettle on and would probably even have opened his new biscuits, but Gabby was not there for coffee and a catch-up. She was there to put young Mr Milligan firmly in his place.

‘Ground rules,’ she told him. ‘I don’t know in what world you thought it was ok to move back here but I guess it’s happening, so let’s set some.’

This was possibly the moment when Gabby revealed just how well she’s learned from Kim Tate as she told Nicky that he was to keep his distance from her. ‘You see me, you walk in the other direction,’ she said.

Nicky said he was hoping they could be civilised about the situation.

‘This is me being civilised,’ she replied. ‘You are, as far as I’m concerned, a pathetic low-life. And you’d better keep as far away from me as possible.’

‘Threats now, is it?’ Nicky said, looking just a little bit scared.

‘This is just a warning,’ Gabby said, going Full Kim at this point. ‘A threat is when I show you just how uncivilised I can be.’

‘Whatever,’ Nicky replied, and for a person who’s spent the previous six months playing a role he looked like he was now trying to play the role of someone who wasn’t frightened, even a teeny little bit.

Because with friends like Kim and Will (Dean Andrews) behind her, there’s no doubt that Gabby could prove to be a very scary enemy indeed.
