Nicola Roberts announced as fifth celeb taking part in Strictly Christmas special

Girls AloudstarNicola Roberts has been announced to be taking part in theStrictly Come Dancing Christmas Special 2022 in the hopes of being crowned the Strictly Christmas Champion.

Nicola, 37, will be partnered up with 2021 winner Giovanni Pernice – who took home the infamous Glitterball last year with the help of celebrity partner Rose Ayling-Ellis.

Speaking before she hits the dancefloor, the songstress described herself as honoured to be taking part.

“It’s truly an honour to be part of Strictly, but to be invited on to the prestigious Christmas day episode is something very special indeed,” Nicola said to Zoe Ball on her BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Friday, 2 December.

“They’ve promised me extra glitter, sparkle and frosting all wrapped up together with a big bow on top. What more could a girl wish for at Christmas!”

Nicola’s become accustomed to glitz and glamour over the years, not only from her Girls Aloud days, but also after starring on The Masked Singer.

For the ITV show, The Promise singer starred as Queen Bee in 2020 and blew viewers away with her fantastic vocals.

Discussing her time on the show, Nicola toldCosmopolitan: “I initially didn’t pay much attention to the request [to get me on the show], but after a follow up I thought, ‘This actually sounds like a lot of fun.’

“They obviously couldn’t tell me much about who else was taking part, but they had details about the panel. Once they said Davina McCall and Jonathan Ross were involved, I was hooked. I’d just gone through a very hard personal thing; it was the perfect time to do something joyful and light-hearted. So I said yes.”

For her next venture, Nicola joins the likes of Gavin and Stacey actor Larry Lamb, former Corrie star Alexandra Mardell and Rickie Haywood-Williams in taking part in this year’s Strictly special.

“Christmas has come early! I can’t wait to get on the dance floor and learn a brand new skill ready for all those festive parties,” said Larry, 75, of his upcoming Strictly stint.

“I am excited yet incredibly nervous but I know Nadiya will look after me, and I look forward to adding a bit of extra sparkle to Christmas day.”

Rickie, 42, added: “I have watched Strictly over the years and always said I’d be too scared to do it. But here I am ready to go for it, sequins n’ all.”

Rosie Ramsay is also taking part in the Christmas programme, with the sixth and final celebrity yet to be announced.
