Away from his time filming Starz drama Outlander, Sam Heughan regularly updates his Instagram followers with his latest work projects. This includes the latest goings-on with his spirits brand Sassenach Spirits. However, the Jamie Fraser star sparked division among his followers recently when he posed with a bottle of his own whiskey while straddling a custom-made Triumph motorbike.
Sam was in attendance at the Scottish Bike Show this past weekend where he unveiled the custom vehicle which he aptly named the Sassenach Scrambler.
The bike remained stationary and inside the show hall as Sam took to the saddle for the snap.
The Outlander star also reiterated in the accompanying caption to the snap that fans shouldn’t “drink and ride”.
He penned to 3.9 million followers: “So fun unveiling my new custom bike at #scottishbikeshow.
“Huge thank you to the amazing team for building the bike of my dreams!
@westcoasttriumphglasgow @westcoastharley @hurleycustomseats and Gavin for the incredible @sassenachspirits paint job. @triumphuk @officialtriumph.”
The Outlander star concluded with the words of warning as he added: “Don’t drink and Ride. Enjoy a dram after your ride.”
Sam still came under fire from some fans who weren’t impressed with the product placement, however, as @mariaeradford hit out: “Not a great idea to link drink and driving: love you, Sam, but…”

Fellow user @bianca230685 also criticised: “It is an amazing bike. And i know it us all about image. But alcohol and driving is a really big NO for me.”
And @amaliaalvarinhas weighed in: “Images stick better than words… And as much as I love you Sam, booze and motorbikes do not look good together…!”
Elsewhere, @outlanders_world wasn’t pleased as they expressed: “This action does not deserve any support. Promoting your alcohol brand with your motorcycle is irresponsible. Alcohol does not belong on the road.”
However, @jeanne1111 defended the actor as they said: “Of course neither Sam nor Triumph are promoting drinking and driving! People need to chill.

“They simply designed a stunning, tricked-out bike in the same colors as his Sassenachspirits label. It’s called branding. Gorgeous Bike Sam! It’s a beauty. Happy trails!”
And @davisbonnielee also jumped to the Outlander star’s defence: “SMART PEOPLE KNOW SAM AND TRIUMPH DO NOT PROMOTE DRIVING AND DRINKING! Of Course.” (sic)
Elsewhere, in the snap, Sam donned a leather biker jacket combined with a grey hoodie and jeans.
The star’s look may have been worlds away from his alter-ego of Jamie Fraser, but fans don’t have long until Jamie and Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) love story comes back to screens.
Starz announced earlier this year that season seven of Outlander would return in the summer of 2023.
However, there was some sad news for Outlander fans as Starz confirmed the following season, season eight, would be its final run.
Kathryn Busby, the president of original programming at Starz, said: “For nearly a decade Outlander has won the hearts of audiences worldwide and we’re pleased to bring Claire and Jamie’s epic love story to a proper conclusion.”
Season seven will consist of 16 episodes while season eight will have 10, meaning fans have just 26 episodes of Outlander to go before it ends for good.
Outlander season 7 premieres on Starz in the USA and Lionsgate+ in the UK in the summer of 2023.
