Daryl McCormack is best known for his role as Isaiah Jesus, taking over from Jordan Bolger in the fifth season of the period crime drama Peaky Blinders. He re-teams with his co-star Brian Gleeson for Apple TV+’s brand new black comedy Bad Sisters and reminisced with Express.co.uk about an amusing moment with Brian and lead actor Cillian Murphy from the set of the BBC hit.
Bad Sisters star Daryl recounted a strange realisation he and his co-star Brian had while they were filming with Cillian on Peaky Blinders.
In Sharon Horgan’s sensational new series Bad Sisters, Daryl reunites with Brian as insurance salesmen Matthew and Thomas Claffin.
At the series premiere in London, Daryl told Express.co.uk the last time he saw his co-star was during the fifth season of the Birmingham-set period drama.
“The last time we hung out with him we were both in Peaky,” he recalled.
“It was myself, him and Cillian. All three of us were Irish and not one of us [was] playing an Irish person. So it was a strange day!”
Daryl has kept his natural Irish accent for Sharon’s Dublin-set series, but both he and Cillian adopted a Brummie accent to portray Isaiah and Tommy Shelby in the fifth and sixth seasons of Peaky Blinders.
Brian, the son of Harry Potter star, Brendan Gleeson, took on a Scottish accent for his iconic yet short-lived performance as Glasgow gang leader Jimmy McCavern.
In their new series, the Peaky Blinders duo plays two half-brothers who are trying to keep their father’s insurance business afloat.
When John Paul Williams (Claes Bang) dies under mysterious circumstances, they go after his wife Grace (Anne-Marie Duffy) and her four sisters to try and prove he had been murdered to avoid handing over a massive life insurance payout.
Daryl confirmed he was thrilled for the opportunity to work with Brian more after his Peaky Blinders co-star didn’t return for season six.
He recalled: “To definitely get to know him on this kind of intimate level has just been amazing.”

“He’s such an amazing actor. He’s really, really great and such a funny guy.
“We really struck a bond, so I felt really privileged for him to be one of my main scene partners.”
In regards to a Peaky Blinders return, Daryl confirmed creator Steven Knight has “something cooking”, though was unable to reveal if he’d be back in the series’ upcoming film.
Steven recently teased on the Heart Breakfast show: “Yes, I’m writing it right now.”
“I’m nearly done writing it, and we’re going to shoot it… I’m setting up some film and television studios in Digbeth in Birmingham.
When asked about returning characters, he replied: “Of course, and some new faces that will hopefully be quite surprising.”
Despite all speculation, Tommy Shelby went on to live another day in this year’s jaw-dropping conclusion to Steven’s Birmingham crime saga.
Plus, if Steven, Cillian, and the rest of the new and returning cast get started on production soon, fans may not have long to wait before Tommy returns for one last ride.
Peaky Blinders is available to stream on Netflix and BBC iPlayer. Bad Sisters continues Fridays on Apple TV+.
