Prue Leith signed up to Dancing on Ice – but quit after being called too old

Bake Off star Prue Leith confessed she was once asked to do Dancing on Ice – and she very nearly took part.

The 82-year-old baking sensation appeared on The One Show with Alex Jones and Harry Judd as she spoke about her upcoming tour and vowed she would "never say no to anything".

As questions were welcomed on the show, one viewer asked if she could be expected on Strictly Come Dancing 2023 – but Prue immediately shut it down.

Confessing that it's "the only thing" she would say no to, she did also spill a bit more detail about one dancing show she very nearly did join.

She told the hosts that she was once asked to do ITV's Dancing on Ice when she was 70 – with Alex immediately jumping in to say: "No! I mean I was going to say no on your behalf!"

But Prue revealed that she actually said yes – she explained: "I thought, 'I'll learn to skate, I'll get thin and fit and I will learn something new and exciting!"

However, it soon took a downwards turn as she confessed nobody in her family would agree to it.

She said: "My secretary, my husband and my children all said: "No, you're too old. You will break something."

But she explained that she really wanted to take part in the show because it's "in her nature" to try something new and believe "everything will be fine".

She added: "Look at me now, I'm my age, going on huge tours!"

Prue revealed that she would be going on tour in 2023 with the first show, titled Nothing in Moderation, kicking off in February.

When she revealed the news of her upcoming tour, she said: "I’ve never done a stage show before and at 82 I’m probably nuts to try it, but it’s huge fun, makes the audience laugh and lets me rant away about the restaurant trade, publishers, TV, and writing, and sing the praises of food, love and life."

Prue has committed to multiple shows in February and March, and one date in April.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
