Richard Madeley has admitted he has his doubts over whether Prince Harry will attend the coronation for King Charles III, pointing out that the Duke of Sussex has apparently ‘dissed’ his father in his upcoming tell-all book.
This week, it was confirmed that the King’s coronation is set to take place on Saturday May 6 next year.
This date will coincide with the fourth birthday of Prince Harry and Meghan’s son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, who was born in 2019 almost a year after his parents’ Windsor wedding.
On Wednesday’s Good Morning Britain, Susanna Reid and Richard were joined by former royal press secretary Ed Perkins to discuss the latest details revealed about next year’s coronation.
Susanna brought up the fact that it clashed with Archie’s birthday, as she asked: ‘Is there anything deliberate there? Is it to entice the whole family over to attend grandad the King’s coronation?’
‘It’s either a clash or an opportunity,’ Ed responded, remaining very diplomatic when it came to sharing his own point of view.
Richard then brought up Harry and Meghan, pondering whether they may even attend the historic event.
‘What about Harry and Meghan? There’s this book that Harry’s writing which is likely to cause huge waves, you’ve got the whole Netflix documentary which is now going ahead. Do you think they’ll even come?’ he queried.
‘I don’t know,’ Ed admitted, before Richard quipped: ‘Harry’s dissed his father in the book. He’s not going to show up for the coronation, is he?’
Earlier this week, it was claimed that Harry’s memoir may never be published, as doing so could ruin his chances of reconciling with his family.
The duke’s autobiography was due to be released before the end of 2022, but was postponed until next year following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Nonetheless, royal commentator Tina Brown alleged that Harry was ‘tortured’ about ‘spilling everything about his horrible life as a royal’ in the book ‘because he understands there is no way back if he does it’.
‘If the book continues, I don’t think there is any way for Harry to return. So my view has always been that the book won’t see the light of day,’ she told The Telegraph.
‘The window is beginning to close but I always thought at some point a deal would be made and Charles would have to pay back the advance to stop Harry writing this book.’
A source added to the Daily Mail that Harry supposedly ‘wants sections changed’ in the book.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
