The Daniels-directed absurdist film sweeps the awards in all four categories it’s nominated for, including the outstanding cast award, while ‘The White Lotus’ leads the TV pack.
AceShowbiz -“Everything Everywhere All at Once” is once again showing its domination in this year’s awards season. After winning the top prize at the 2023 Producers Guild of America Awards on Saturday night, February 25, the movie also came out victorious at the 29th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night.
The absurdist comedy-drama film swept the awards in all four categories it’s nominated for, making it the biggest winner of the night. It nabbed the outstanding cast in a motion picture award, which was announced at the top of the ceremony, beating out fellow nominees “Babylon“, “The Banshees of Inisherin“, “The Fabelmans” and “Women Talking“.
Michelle Yeoh earlier took the stage to accept the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role. It’s her first SAG Award after being nominated for the first time in the ensemble category for “Crazy Rich Asians” in 2019. She delivered an inspiring speech as saying, “Every one of you know the journey, the roller coaster ride, the ups and downs… But most importantly, to never give up.”
Yeoh’s co-stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Ke Huy Quan also won individual prizes. Curtis beat out her own co-star Stephanie Hsu for the best supporting actress trophy, with Ke Huy Quan winning over Paul Dano, Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan and Eddie Redmayne for the best supporting actor prize.
Brendan Fraser took home the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role award for his performance in “The Whale“, while “Top Gun: Maverick” won the stunt ensemble prize.
In the TV field, “The White Lotus” led the pack with two wins, including best actress in a drama series for Jennifer Coolidge and best ensemble in a drama series. Jason Bateman of “Ozark” was named best actor in a drama series, with Jessica Chastain, Sam Elliott, Jeremy Allen White and Jean Smart among other individual winners.
“Stranger Things” won the best stunt ensemble prize, which was announced ahead of the live ceremony. Meanwhile, the event also saw Sally Field being presented with the Life Achievement Award.
In her speech, Field talked about taking pride in her acting career. “I worked my whole life. In all of these almost 60 years, there is not a day that I don’t feel quietly thrilled to be called an actor,” she said.
