Sam fears for lump in his testicle as he opens up to doctor Liam in Emmerdale

Sam Dingle (James Hooton) in Emmerdale never fails to surprise us.

The beloved character joined Cain (Jeff Hordley), Bob (Tony Audenshaw), Liam (Jonny McPherson), Marlon (Mark Charnock), Nate (Jurell Carter), Jimmy (Nick Miles) and Charles (Kevin Mathurin) tonight for a lock-in at the pub, created to try and help the men of the village open up and talk.

The start of the evening was a little awkward. No-one really knew what to say and thought they were just there to help Paddy (Dominic Brunt) following his attempt at ending his life.

It was Liam who ultimately helped the men feel slightly more comfortable, as he opened up about the time that he took an overdose at medical school and was saved by his friend.

This certainly didn’t break the ice as such, because there were plenty of other moments throughout the evening that saw at least one person realise they were masking situations with banter.

However, after Liam began talking and Paddy eventually arrived, Sam was ready to talk about his problem.

Sam’s issue wasn’t about his mental health, but his physical health. Specifically, a lump in his testicle.

Sam explained to Liam that he had found it recently and had been going out of his mind with worry, fearing what it could be.

He pulled his trousers down, which left a few people stunned but fortunately, Sam’s mind was put at ease when Liam told him it’s a boil – nothing to be concerned about.

While Sam couldn’t relate to Liam and Paddy’s struggles, there was some common ground in the sense he had something on his mind and needed to talk about it.
