Scrubs cast now 21 years later – six kids, co-star split and Hollywood stardom

American medical comedy-drama Scrubs took the world by storm when it first premiered on October 2, 2001.

Noted for its fast-paced slapstick humour and the loveable bromance between characters JD and Chris, the show ran for an incredible nine years, offering viewers worldwide an array of laughs.

Since it first debuted, the popular programme set a new standard for ensemble comedy and received a Peabody Award in 2006 for its comedic portrayal.

During the seventh season, American broadcasting company NBC announced that it would not renew another series of the show.

Despite this, ABC revealed it had picked up the eighth season of the popular series, that began airing on January 6, 2009.

Following on from this, the ninth season of the show premiered on December 1, 2009, but on May 14, 2010, ABC officially cancelled the entire series.

Daily Star has taken a look at where the cast are now on the 21st anniversary of its first episode.

Zach Braff as John Michael "J.D." Dorian

Actor Zach Braff played protagonist John Michael "J.D." Dorian in the popular comedy.

But before he became recognised as the lead character in Scrubs, he had already been cast in a few small parts prior.

However, the hospital comedy propelled him to Hollywood stardom and allowed him to quit his job as a waiter.

Once the show came to an end Zach continued acting, writing and directing and went on to release 2014's Wish I Was Here alongside Kate Hudson and 2017's Going in Style that starred Morgan Freeman.

In 2018, the actor starred in the ABC comedy Alex, Inc., on which he also served as executive producer and director.

Over the years Zack has also had a rather interesting dating life, he previously dated singer and actor Mandy Moore in 2004, however, they ended their relationship in 2006.

Mandy appeared in the series as one of JD's many love interests, but he ended up dumping her because he realised he wanted a serious relationship, and she wasn't the one.

Mandy's character left in series five, the same season she and Zach split.

He was also was in a relationship with model Taylor Bagley from 2009 to 2014.

Since April 2019, the star has been in a relationship with English actress Florence Pugh.

Zack's last film role was in 2017 starring as himself in The Disaster Artist, however, the comedy star has plenty more roles in the pipeline.

Donald Faison as Christopher Turk

Funnyman Donald Faison played Christopher Turk in the show who was also JD's right-hand man.

The pair shared a memorable bromance throughout several seasons of the programme and showed audiences the true meaning of friendship.

When the show came to an end Donald continued acting and appeared in TV comedy The Exes from 2011 to 2015.

He also appeared in films Pitch Perfect, Kick-Ass 2 and Wish I Was Here.

Away from the limelight, Donald is happily married to his wife CaCee Cobb.

The star shares three children with his current wife and three with his ex-wife Lisa Askey.

In 2019, he provided an update of his relationship with his former co-star Zach and said they are still best mates.

He jokingly admitted to being jealous when he sees Zach hanging out with other famous celebs like Ed Sheeran, telling AOL's Build he said: "So for Ed out there, just know that your friendship that you have with him is false."

Sarah Chalke as Elliot Reid

Blonde bombshell Sarah Chalke played charismatic doctor Elliot Reid in the hit comedy series, with her character taking a liking to JD in the show.

But once her time on Scrubs came to an end, Sarah continued acting and played another doctor on How I Met Your Mother.

She also starred in a couple of short series called Mad Love and How to Live with Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life), as well as Netflix's Friends From College.

Not only this but Sarah reunited with her Scrubs co-star Christa Miller and had a recurring role on Cougar Town.

Later on in her career, the Canadian actress also ventured into voice over work and could be heard on animated series, Rick and Morty and Paradise PD.

In 2018, she appeared in the rebooted series of Rosanne playing the role of Andrea.

Sarah has two children, Piper and Natasha.

Judy Reyes as Carla Espinosa

Before appearing in Scrubs as a reoccurring character Judy Reyes was already well known in the Hollywood circuit and had been working as an actress for ten years.

In the popular medical comedy, Judy played head nurse Carla Espinosa. Her character was also in a long-term relationship with Chris Turk in the show.

Now that Scrubs has finished, Judy has kept on working and starred in several popular shows and dramas such as Jane The Virgin, Blue Bloods, Fresh Off The Boat and several more.

She is currently a regular cast member of Claws and recently reprised her role as flirty Ramona in One Day At A Time,

In 2008, the star got divorced from her cameraman husband Edwin M. Figueroa who was known for working on films such as The Amazing Spdier-man 2 and Boiler Room.

She is now in a relationship with George Valencia and they share one child together.

John C. McGinley as Dr Perry Cox

American actor John C. McGinley played JD's worst nightmare in the show, Dr Perry Cox but the star was also responsible for delivering some of the best comical moments throughout the series.

After the show ended, the already established actor appeared in the films 42 and Battle Of The Sexes. He also had a recurring role in Chicago P.D.

Not only this but the actor also starred in his very own show called Stan Against Evil.

John is also a well-known member of the "Malibu Mob," which is a group of celebrity friends in the Southern California city.

The group includes John Cusack, Tony Danza and tennis player John McEnroe.

In 2007 he married his wife Nichole McGinley and he has three children.

Ken Jenkins as Dr Bob Kelso

Comedy actor Ken Jenkins portrayed Dr Bob Kelso in Scrubs.

But before he appeared on the show, just like some of his other co-stars, he already had a well-established career and appeared in films such as The Abyss and Psycho.

After the programme, Ken continued acting and went on to play Chick, Courteney Cox's father on Cougar Town, and also starred in two episodes of Netflix's A Series Of Unfortunate Events in 2018.

Ken's other talents include the ability to sing and play the acoustic guitar.

The star is currently married to his wife Kathrine Houghton and he has three children.
