Strictly fans call for unfair dances to be axed from final

Strictly bosses have been accused of being out of step by fans over "unfair" dances that could decide the winners, because they have "fewer rules" than traditional ballroom routines.

The final of this year's Strictly Come Dancing is on Saturday (December 17), with producers sharing what the finalists will be trying to impress the judges with.

Many viewers however, have hit out as three of the dances on the night are Couple's Choices.

This year's finalists are Fleur East and Vito Coppola, Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystał, Helen Skelton and Gorka Marquez and Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu, who will each be performing three routines.

Helen will perform a Jive to Tightrope by Janelle Monae, a Couple's Choice to Mein Herr by Liza Minnelli and a show dance to Shine by Emeli Sande.

Fleur will dance the Samba to Hot Hot Hot by Arrow, a Couple's Choice to Destiny’s Child megamix and a show dance to Find Me by Sigma.

Hamza will perform the Salsa to Ecuador by Sash! featuring Rodriguez, a Couple's Choice to Jerusalema Remix by Master KG featuring Burna Boy and Nomcebo Zikode, plus a show dance to Let’s Face The Music And Dance by Irving Berlin.

Molly will dance the Quickstep to Love On Top by Beyonce, a Rumba to All The Man That I Need by Whitney Houston as their favourite and a show dance to a mix of Prince's Kiss and 1999 – meaning that she and Carlos are the only pair who have not selected a Couple's Choice.

One viewer wrote on Twitter: "Disappointed to only see one ballroom dance in the final although it reflects the series, and for me personally, why I feel it has lost its sparkle and no longer unmissable viewing," adding: "Fingers crossed Hamza may have some ballroom content in his show dance."

Another commented: ."I think the producers need to address the issue of Couple’s Choice. It always felt unfair even in its original incarnation, but with all rules dropped now, it’s become another show dance," adding: "This means three of the four finalists are effectively performing two show dances in the final!"

A third quipped: "Don't think the Couple's Choice dances should be allowed to be picked. That seems unfair as they always do well with having fewer rules!"

Another declared: "Can we go back to a ballroom/Latin/show dance? The judges used to pick one dance they feel they can improve after all the weeks of training!"

However, others are supportive of the Couple's Choices, with one viewer saying: "Just because you don’t want to see it, doesn’t mean anything. It’s not 'audience choice'. You’ll vote for your favourite regardless."

One further fan exclaimed: "Molly and Carlos doing the rumba for a second time and Fleur doing Destiny's Child. I am screaming with excitement!"
