On Sunday night, Strictly viewers watched as radio host Tyler West and Molly Rainford went head-to-head in the dance-off. In the end, the majority of judges chose to save the CBBC presenter who will be dancing next weekend. However, fans quickly took to social media to share the real reason they believe Tyler was booted.
Saturday saw the BBC dance competition make its return to Blackpool following a three-year hiatus due to restrictions.
Due to the anticipated iconic week, the stakes were higher than ever before as the celebrities and professional dancers pulled out all the stops.
With no couple getting a score below 30, it was a close call as to who would be in the bottom two and dancing for their place in the competition.
In the end, it was Tyler West and Molly Rainford who had to reperform their routines to try and impress judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke.
However, with three out of the four people on the panel deciding to save Molly, Tyler and his Strictly professional Dianne Buswell were the latest couple to leave the show.
It wasn’t long before fans took to Twitter to share the real reason they believe the 26-year-old was given the boot.
Flowerbomb212 said: “New strictly curse in town is that Afro wig. It’s taken out @AstonMerrygold and it’s just done @TylerWestt dirty as well. #SCD #Strictly.”
Shoorayner added: “I said Tyler would go from #strictly yesterday when he first appeared with that wig – before they even danced – Afro wigs are the kiss of death on strictly – no one votes for wigs or face covering masks.”
ThomDWTS swiped: “The Afro wig that Tyler & Aston have worn is the REAL Strictly Curse #Strictly.”
“This is cast-iron proof that the wig should be taken outside and destroyed in a controlled explosion, it is cursed”, commented Twitter user KittyLGallagher.
When it was revealed that he would be leaving the show. Tyler had nothing but praise for his dancing partner Dianne as he said the show has changed his life.
He commented: “This girl here has changed my life for sure. To think I was some shy kid who never used to talk to anyone, to dance in front of millions, I can’t put it into words.”
Tyler added that Strictly is his mum’s favourite show and he brought her to Blackpool to watch him take to the iconic dancefloor.
The radio host also mentioned that competing in the series has given him a new sense of confidence before thanking the entire crew from the judges to hair and makeup.
He then mentioned his close friendship with Dianne as he said: “But this girl here, I have been blessed with the best, she is what Strictly is about and she’s changed my life, I have no doubt she will be in my life forever.”
Dianne told Tyler that he’d been a joy to work with over the past few weeks as he enters every session with a huge smile ready to learn.
She added: “You are such a talent, you really are and you should feel so proud, I am so proud of you.
“Your family are so proud and your nan is so proud of you, thank you so much for everything.”
Tyler was placed sixth on the leaderboard as his score of 35 was joint with Will Mellor and Molly.
At the top of the scale is Fleur East who secured the first perfect score of the series with 10s across the board.
Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday on BBC One at 7:15pm
