Strictly Come Dancing’s Kym Marsh has revealed how important her dance routine last Saturday was to her. Alongside her partner Graziano Di Prima, they reflected on their powerful performance in honour of babies who have died prematurely. The Coronation Street star and dancing professional opened up on their experiences on Thursday’s It Takes Two.
Janette Manrara spoke to the pair, who have both suffered premature baby loss, on the Strictly spin-off show.
She asked: “What a beautiful performance at the weekend from the two of you, was it like to perform such an emotional routine?”
Kym replied: “It was amazing, it was something I will never ever forget.
“It was a very very important routine. We wanted to send a message, we wanted to get people talking and actually it did just that.”

She continued: “I had so many messages from baby loss charities saying thank you so much for delivering that beautiful message on Strictly, so it was just wonderful for us wasn’t it?”
Her partner Stefano remarked: “To find a way to make the perfect choreography, there was something so special for her.
“It’s also related to me and I think we find a way to deliver as the best way.”
During their reflection, Kym made reference to their late son: “Hopefully we made Archie and Stefano so proud”, she added.
In the emotional segment of the show, Janette also asked Kym: “It must have taken a lot of control not to get lost in the emotions right?”
The actress experienced her baby passing away at 21 weeks in 2009 and she commented: “Yes it did.”
Kym paused and continued: “When you lose a child you’ll never get over that, ever. But it’s about learning to accept what has happened and being able to get out there, tell the story and hopefully do it justice was just incredible.
She declared: “It is a moment that I will never ever forget, or my family, so thank you very much and your choreography was amazing.”
Last Saturday Kym and Graziano scored 31 points out of a possible 40 performing an American Smooth to Snow Patrol’s moving hit Chasing Cars.
In the middle of the routine, Kym put her foot in the incorrect position, much to her anguish.
She broke down in tears and explained: “I made some silly mistakes which I hadn’t made before but I think it was the emotion of the evening which got to me.”
With all the emotion of the evening, Kym told Claudia Winkleman: “It’s just been so nice to dance that dance, so thank you.”
Despite the minor fault, the pair received high praise from the judges, who did not ignore the error.
Craig Revel Horwood remarked: “The [error] was a bit of a disaster but the storytelling was absolutely immaculate and in and out of the lifts was beautiful. It was simple and gorgeous.”
The performance was enough for the dancing duo to make it to week nine in the battle for the Glitterball Trophy.
They will join the other celebrity hopefuls dancing in the iconic Blackpool Tower on Saturday.
Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 7.45pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
