Strictly’s Tess Daly sparks backlash as fans spot ‘unnecessary’ remark to Helen

BBC Strictly Come Dancing judge Tess Daly sparked backlash from fans as they noticed her point out Helen Skelton's wardrobe malfunction during the semi-final.

As all of the remaining couples had to do two dances in the semi-final, Helen performed a waltz to Only One Road by Celine Dion, earning plenty of praise from the judges and scoring 35.

But she ran into problems during her second dance as she and Gorka Marquez went for an Argentine tango to Here Comes The Rain Again by Eurythmics.

Poor Helen got her heel caught into her blue sequinned dress, but managed to continue with the dance despite the mishap, and many viewers didn't notice anything had gone awry.

But as Helen and Gorka came over to the judges for their verdicts, Tess asked Helen: "Is your dress ok? I know it got caught a little bit in your heel."

Viewers quickly took to social media to scold Tess for highlighting the mishap, with one posting: "Why did Terrible Tess find it necessary to point out a costume issue before turning to the judges for Helen’s judge’s comments?"

Another added: "So annoyed at Tess. The first thing she said was about Helen getting her heel caught. I didn't even notice," to which several people agreed that they also hadn't spotted it.

However, Helen's dance still went down well with the judges, as she and Gorka managed to bag an impressive 37 for their last dance of the night.

Gorka told Helen: ""For me, you are an incredible person, an inspirational person. Positive with a smile, I think you inspire a lot of people, starting from me, to the whole nation."

Meanwhile, viewers were left devastated as actor Will Mellor and his partner Nancy Xu were the last couple to be eliminated before the final this weekend.

After a tense dance off against Fleur East and Vito Coppola, the pair were axed from the show and were left gutted by the turn of events.

As they appeared on It Takes Two with Rylan Clark, Will admitted he had been left upset by the elimination while Nancy burst into tears on air.

Strictly's final airs this weekend at 7.05pm on BBC.
