The fourth and final season of Succession is already one of the most critically acclaimed TV events of the year after the incredible success of the first three seasons. Starring Brian Cox as mega-rich patriarch Logan Roy, his competitive kids will have one last chance to take a stand against Waystar Royco before the award-winning HBO series reaches its conclusion.
Main cast member J Smith-Cameron has hinted there could still be a chance for Succession to continue after its fourth season.
In fact, she’s even eager to return to the show herself as her popular character, Waystar’s interim CEO Gerri Kellman.
She recently joked: “I would like to say to Jesse Armstrong, please consider a spin-off called Gerri! with an exclamation mark!
“And it would be like The Mary Tyler Moore Show, but with Gerri.”
Unfortunately, showrunner Armstrong has confirmed he has no plans to continue Succession after realising it was time for the show to end whilst working on season four.
While both fans and the cast were disappointed by the news, most agreed it was best to end the show’s run on a high.
However, the fourth season’s upcoming finale will leave millions of viewers devastated they’ll never be able to see some of their favourite characters again.
Smith-Cameron went on to suggest the Succession sequel could take its cues from another successful spin-off, Better Call Saul.
“Maybe it could be like a ‘Better Call Gerri’ show,” she told Entertainment Weekly.
“Where it’s all about the fixer and different cases, I don’t know. I’m really kidding.”
The actress eventually admitted she doesn’t expect her pitch for a Gerri-focused spin-off to go anywhere.
Even so, there are still plenty of opportunities to explore the lives of supporting and minor characters within the world of Succession if HBO decides to expand the franchise.

“I don’t think there should be a show about Gerri per se,” Smith-Cameron went on.
“But I do think that there could be some kind of sequel to the show, with or without Gerri. I think there’s a lot of material.
“Jesse really knows his show, and in terms of the main characters, and the main storyline, [it’s] probably proper and true that this is the final season.
“But for all these myriad characters around the perimeter, and all the other themes in the show, which are really rich and juicy, I feel like the show could go on for years, because there’s just a lot of fun material.
“For us actors on the sidelines, we feel like: ‘Oh, okay, well, bye, bye, everybody!’ It’s sad.”
Other popular side characters include Stewy Hosseini (played by Arian Moayed) and Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård) who could retain the spirit of Succession in their own series.
Nothing has been announced just yet, but the recent popularity of Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon proves HBO is not afraid of expanding its biggest properties.
As for what’s coming up in season four, Smith-Cameron teased: “I will say, it’s very juicy, it’s got some very startling, cool things in it. It’s a bumpy ride.”
Succession season 4 premieres Sunday, March 26 on HBO in the USA and the following Monday on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
