*Warning: This article contains spoilers from the first two episodes of The Rings of Power.

Lord of The Rings prequel The Rings of Power opens with the most terrifying orc sequence ever,  but there’s plenty more horror to come.

The Amazon Prime Video blockbuster has launched to rave reviews, and take our word for it: is not suitable for children and is way scarier than the Peter Jackson movies.

In episode two, we see just how petrifying a single orc can be let alone when they’re joined by their army.

Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin) has come into possession of a broken sword which is bad news – if you’re yet to watch The Rings of Power we’ll spare the details.

For those who have, we can all see where this is going.

He and his mother Bronwyn (Nazanin Boniadi) soon find themselves trapped in a room with a lone orc, who emerges from the ground in a spooky mask and immediately sniffs them out.

It’s a lot.

Discussing the significance of the scene, showrunner JD Payne told us: ‘It’s scary. Our goal with the orc was to show how scary a single orc can be.

‘Sometimes orcs can be  like video game characters when they’re just suddenly get killed en mass. We thought if it’s this difficult to kill one orc how difficult is it going to be to kill a lot of orcs?

‘This show has all those tones in a way. It goes there and it gets intense later and dare I say even more intense later.’

And orcs were just as horrid in the flesh as the are on screen.

Cynthia Addai-Robinson, who stars as Queen Mieli, told us seeing one ‘in person is shocking’.

Elendi star Lloyd Owen added: ‘You get a visceral reaction to it, which is rejection ultimately. “I don’t want to be around that.”.’

The Rings of Power is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video now.
