Season 10 of The Blacklist is currently in the works with James Spader set to reprise his role as Raymond ‘Red’ Reddington for more gripping cases with the FBI. However, as the NBC series continues its lengthy break between new instalments, fans have been revisiting some classic episodes and poking holes at Liz Keen’s (played by Megan Boone) questionable motives.

Fans have blasted Liz for letting Mario Dixon (Aldis Hodge) go despite having an easy opportunity to take him down.

The high-end thief appeared in just a single episode in season four and caused plenty of trouble for the crime-stopping double act.

An early appearance from Aldis, the one-time guest star is now known for larger roles in films like Black Adam and The Invisible Man.

Although Mario is potentially still out there waiting for another opportunity to go up against Red and Liz, the latter had plenty of chances to make sure he wouldn’t be bothering the FBI again.

Redditor Kafkadreams66 asked fellow fans: “Why didn’t Keen shoot?

“Why didn’t Liz shoot Mario Dixon, the guy Mr Kaplan (Susan Blommaert) sent to steal Red’s immunity agreement from Stone Canyon?” They continued.

“Mr Kaplan blinded the other guard grotesquely. Mario fled from a van on a motorcycle right in front of Keen who could have shot him.”

Mr Kaplan, aka Kathryn Nemec, would go on to prove herself as one of Liz and Red’s fiercest rivals throughout the subsequent seasons.

However, Liz sadly didn’t take the chance to strike a blow against their nemesis by taking out one of her lackeys.

Thankfully, Dixon didn’t ever make a reappearance, but viewers were still disappointed in Liz when she failed to take an easy shot.

In the comments, DCI_Benway suggested: “Sometimes the script just says: ‘and the guy gets away’.

“I’ve lost count of how many times this ‘trope’ is used on The Blacklist.”

“It always leaves you shaking your head that they didn’t put more effort into making it believable (at least have someone taking a shot but their gun jams – something).”

And fellow frustrated fan Dismal-Way-5633 added: “Because this son of a b***h only knows how to shoot who she shouldn’t and hurt who she shouldn’t.

“Her death at the end of season eight was just a relief, as much as I loved her.”

The Blacklist has since entered a new era following the death of Liz at the end of season eight, with Red going solo for the next instalment.

This outing also saw the sad departure of agents Alina Park (Laura Sohn) and Aram Mojtabai (Amir Arison), though there’s a chance Amir could return after his stint on Broadway.

Clearly, some viewers felt it was the right decision to kill off the disruptive heroine, although the first season without Liz was met with a mixed response from die-hard fans.

Even so, the series is still proving popular enough to continue for a 10th season, which will premiere in February 2023.

The odds will be stacked against Red without his most trusted allies on hand, although Siya Malik (Anya Banerjee) will hopefully fill the gap left by the absent agents.

The Blacklist season 10 premieres Sunday, February 16, on NBC. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
