Jay Blades is well-recognised as the face of the BBC heirloom-fixing show, The Repair Shop. With filming for season 11 currently underway, the host lifted the lid on the restrictions surrounding his outfit choices.
The presenter made an appearance on Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh where he reflected on the beloved BBC show and life after becoming a best-selling author.
While talking about The Repair Shop, Alan remarked: “You know you have to take your hat off indoors, there are people of a certain age….”
To which Jay hit back: “But I’m in a barn, like I’m in a barn here so I’m allowed to have my hat on.”
As Alan laughed and responded: “Oh right,” Jay unveiled a major filming secret.

He stated: “One of the little secrets I’m going to let you into is they haven’t allowed me to change my kind of uniform, let’s say since we’ve started filming it.
“So, I’ve always got to wear a hat, waistcoat and a shirt.”
Jay added: “Short-sleeved in the summer and long-sleeved in the winter.”
Since the show first aired in 2017, fans have come accustomed to seeing him in different versions of this attire.
Jay usually sports a baker boy cap with a pair of his signature black-rimmed glasses.
Throughout the show, he wears a crisp white shirt, with a brown waistcoat, occasionally paired with a navy blue jacket.
The Repair Shop has become a huge hit with viewers who tune in each week to watch the team repair broken family treasures.
The team consists of some of Britain’s most skilled restoration experts who breathe new life into prized possessions.

The show’s guests also provide a touching story which gives insight into the history of the heirloom and the person who owned it beforehand.
During the most recent episode, viewers were moved to tears after a heartwarming fix.
Jay and the team welcomed Kate Humphries who entered the barn with a 1960’s ride-a-long train which needed restoration.
Kate revealed the treasured item belonged to her father who had recently suffered a stroke, she was hoping the toy could be repaired so he could watch his grandchildren play with it.
Metal expert Dominic Chinea got to work and was soon able to fix the prized heirloom.
However, it was a bittersweet reunion for Kate as she revealed her father had passed away while the train was being restored.
She was brought to tears by the transformation as she remarked: “I think it would have meant the world to dad.
“It’s beautiful, it’s absolutely beautiful,” she added as viewers watched her young daughter ride on the newly restored train.
The Repair Shop continues Wednesdays on BBC One at 8pm
