The UK has been dealt crushing blow hours before the Eurovision final

Eurovision: Inside the dress rehearsal in Liverpool

UK Eurovision fans have been hit with a cruel blow ahead of the grand final this evening (May 13).

Much like previous years, the UK’s chances of victory at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest 2023 aren’t look great, according to the bookmakers.

Across the board, the UK’s entry Mae Muller and her track I Wrote A Song have poor odds to win the Eurovision Song Contest.

Mae has been given 40/1 from bet365 and William Hill but the likes of Unibet have put the UK’s chances of winning at a dismal 125/1.

These figures are likely to be something of a letdown for Eurovision fans, who were hoping Sam Ryder and his second-place position with Space Man in 2022 would help boost the UK’s kudos this year.

Instead, those primed to win are Sweden with 2012 winner Loreen representing the Nordic nation for a second time with her new track Tattoo.

After winning in 2012 with her dance track sensation Euphoria, Loreen became an instant Eurovision classic with her song charting high across many European nations at the time.

Sweden is hoping Loreen will be repeating her success again over a decade after she first raised the Eurovision trophy.

The bookmakers have given Loreen odds of 1/2 from Skybet and Betfair to again be a Eurovision champion.

However, Loreen will be facing some tough competition from Finland’s Käärijä and his song Cha Cha Cha.

Boylesports has him down with odds of 5/2 and BetUK with 2/1.

Another hot contender is Israel’s Noa Kirel and Unicorn with Ladbrokes giving her odds of 9/1 to win the competition.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “At best, we’re in for a three-horse race tonight.

“Loreen and Sweden have led the way pretty much from the offset, but we’ve seen so much interest in Israel over the last 24 hours, it’s impossible to rule them out at this point.”

Representing current Eurovision winners Ukraine this year is TVORCHI and their song Heart of Steel.

Ukraine have odds of 11/1 from SpreadEx and 8/1 from BetVictor.

The entry is said to be about “bravery” with the team going on to explain the song is “about being free in your actions, expressions and thoughts, and to keep going no matter how exhausted and wounded you are”.

The Eurovision grand final comes as Ukraine continues to fight against Russia and enters its 444th day of conflict.

The Eurovision Song Contest airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer tonight at 8pm
