This Morning Holly and Phil slammed for controversial Sir David Jason treatment

Sir David Jason was a guest on This Morning today but his interview was cut short by a “stupid” game of Spin The Wheel.

Viewers were furious that hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield seemed to talk over the legendary actor and cut short his chat about his long and illustrious career.

Spin The Wheel was also said to be poorly timed as it was scheduled for midway through Sir David’s segment.

In fact, when one of the callers didn’t pick up the phone, the 82-year-old actor closed his eyes to have a rest.

At this point, Phillip, 60, seemed to realise they were keeping him waiting so he blurted out: "We haven't got time to muck about!"

It didn’t go unnoticed though and one viewer said on Twitter: "Making David Jason sit there like a spare part while they play a stupid game?"

Another said: “Let him finish what he's saying, poor David Jason," as a third agreed: "What a lovely fella David Jason is."

Yet another commented on how “poor” David Jason had to “put up with those two” and called him a “national treasure”.

Sir David is probably best known for playing Derek “Del Boy” Trotter in the hit soap, which ran from 1981 to 1991 on BBC1.

In other news, Sir David also revealed he recently collapsed after contracting "seriously bad" Covid-19.

He was speaking to BBC Breakfast presenter Jon Kay about his new book when he revealed that he recently collapsed while getting out of bed one night when he had the virus during the summer.

He said: "Being a very creative and inventive person, I thought, how will I get from here to the door?

"You know when you see a walrus if you watch David Attenborough, and they walk on land, they crawl on land? That's what I did.

The Open All Hours star said: "I got it seriously bad.

"Because all the muscles weren't working, I collapsed and I fell against the radiator… I was so weak, I couldn't get up."

"But in order to do that, I had to use my head. So now I'm lying face down on the ground, and in order to get to the door – and the arms really weren't working and the legs weren't working – I was using my head to drag me to the door."

The star continued: "So just as I got to the door, the door opened… and it was my good lady wife and she managed to help me get back into bed. But later on the next day, I got carpet burns all down on my forehead and across the top of my nose."

He continued: "I crawled to the bed. The muscles weren't working and I used the bed to try and stand up so that I could go to where I wanted to get, and also get back into bed, and I couldn't…

"I tried for about a quarter of an hour, trying all sorts of things to stand up so I could walk about."
