Tom Bergeron Just Addressed Rumors of a Grand 'Dancing With the Stars' Return Alongside Alfonso Ribeiro
Just two days ago, legendary TV personality Tom Bergeron got very candid when an excited fan asked about the “special announcement” Dancing With the Stars was expected to make this week. The Twitter user took to the social media platform and wrote the following to the former America’s Funniest Home Videos host: “Thursday on @GMA, special announcement about @officialdwts. Hope it’s a new host! @Tom_Bergeron, will you be in NYC??????” And TBH, though we’re pretty gutted at Tom’s response, we also can’t deny that he’s definitely not stringing us along. “Nope. Sorry,” he simply said.
Nope. Sorry.
ICYMI, back in July 2020, Tom officially announced that he and co-host Erin Andrews would be leaving Dancing With the Stars after 15 seasons…but not on his own accord. And if that sounds cryptic, it’s because it is—the TV personality was apparently axed by ABC and the statements both from himself and the network are truly…something.
“Just informed @DancingABC will be continuing without me,” Tom wrote. “It’s been an incredible 15 year run and the most unexpected gift of my career. I’m grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships made. That said, now what am I supposed to do with all of these glitter masks?”

As for ABC? They chalked it up to them going in a “new creative direction,” announced that Tyra Banks would be replacing the original duo, and that was pretty much it…until it was announced earlier today on Good Morning America that season 19 Mirrorball Champion Alfonso Ribeiro is set to return to the ballroom as Tyra’s co-host on DWTS (while still emceeing America’s Funniest Home Videos, thankfully).
“Dancing With the Stars has been such an important part of my life for so many years, and I am ecstatic to officially re-join this tight-knit family as cohost,” Alfonso gushed in a press release published this morning. “Tyra and I have a longstanding friendship that I hope will resonate with all of the fans at home as we kick off this new season on Disney+.”

Tyra also jumped in to show support for the decision and said, per Good Morning America, “I’ve known Alfonso since I was 19 years old and he always puts a smile on my face whenever I see him. Having such a fun-loving, longtime friend as cohost warms my heart. Bantering back and forth with him live is going to be so much fun!”
Though fans are forever bummed about Tom’s departure, there’s still good news! Tom told the late Bob Saget late last year that he has another project in the works, and he’s excited about it. “I won’t give you the name of it. It’s a game show and it is very reminiscent of something I’ve done in the past in some aspects,” he said in the episode. “We’re waiting to hear if it’s picked up. We’re hearing, as one does in Hollywood sometimes, there is ‘great buzz.’ But I’m a New Englander, it’s not real until it’s real…At this particular point in my career, I’m just looking to have a good time. I don’t really need to host anything anymore.” *Sigh* ILY Tom 🥺❤️.
