Tom Cruise and James Corden surprise unexpecting Lion King audience
Tom Cruise and James Corden surprise Lion King audience as Timon and Pumbaa
Just when The Late Late Show fans think they’ve seen it all, host James Corden always has something bigger and better up his sleeve.
During a recent showing of ABC’s popular chat show, Corden decided it was time to give some unexpected fans the show of a lifetime by taking over The Lion King, accompanied by Hollywood superstar, Tom Cruise.
In a recent showing of the beloved childhood musical at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles, the duo put on the costumes of Timon and Pumbaa and joined the show’s cast for a memorable performance of Hakuna Matata.
The segment kicked off in true Tom Cruise-style when Corden Facetimed the Top Gun: Maverick star, to ask him to lunch and “much, much more” while Cruise was jumping out of a plane.
When Cruise arrived at the theater to meet him, Corden informed him it was finally time to “enter my world” of musical theater, after the pair’s previous antics of performing Cruise’s adrenaline-fuel activities.
After keeping Cruise guessing for a while, Corden finally revealed his big plan was for them to perform live in The Lion King.
Understandably, the Mission Impossible star initially hesitated, but Corden quickly talked him around to go ahead with the performance.
The Gavin and Stacy star introduced himself to their new castmates as a Tony winner, while he joked that Cruise had “limited or next to no theatrical experience”.
However, Corden later reassured the star, saying: “When you and me get out on that stage, we’re going to set this place on fire because you’re Tom Cruise.”

Once Cruise was fully up for the challenge, he gave a motivational talk to the cast, saying: “Tonight, we can show them something they have never seen before. We can make some magic.”
For their big moment in the show, Cruise and Corden navigated sharing a singular Herr Rhino costume while performing the show’s iconic song, The Circle of Life.
During a brief intermission, Corden stated: “That was amazing. I’m so proud of you,” but told Cruise they were, in fact, “not done.”
The pair then returned to the stage for a wholesome performance of another famous song from the show, Hakuna Matata dressed as Timon (Corden) and Pumbaa (Cruise).
Needless to say, the audience members were stunned to see the fan-favorite song interpreted by a famous movie star and a late-night show host.
Fans online were all impressed by the pair’s performance, as they took to Twitter to praise them for their “brilliant” efforts.
One fan @Proccy500 wrote: “Just watched the Tom Cruise sketch on the last ever late night show with James Corden .. that guy can definitely talk the talk and walk the walk. Brilliant.”
Another user @teamtomcruise noted: “It’s true it’s the kings of the jungle. It was great.”
While @lynchcherie added: “If you are looking for a good laugh today, go watch the last last late show with James Corden the scenes with him and Tom Cruise have me in tears cracking up!” [sic]
The final episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden aired on April 27 on CBS in the US.
