The Voice judges Sir Tom Jones and Olly Murs had their sights set on a hopeful called Marc Halls on Saturday’s episode of the ITV show. The 35-year-old musician performed a soulful rendition of Olivia Rodrigo’s hit Drivers License at his blind audition. His “pure” voice blew Olly and Sir Tom away but they clashed as they both wanted Marc on their teams.

Marc revealed he was from Witham, in Essex, which is the same town 38-year-old Olly hails from.

Olly told Marc his performance was “beautiful” and explained how the crowd was screaming at him to press his buzzer.

Sir Tom, 82, interjected: “You have a really pure voice and you sound like you mean every word that you sing. Your personality is coming through.

“You read into the lyrics and you portray them wonderfully so, and that is what I listen for.”

Marc, who was accompanied by members of his band Three Part Hill, proceeded to do a short three-part harmony for the judges.

Olly told him: “I really want to work with you Marc, you seem like a really good guy and I a so happy you got a two-chair turn today.”

Sir Tom agreed and took a swipe at Olly: “If I could block him I would because you are really something special, so that is why.”

The decision was in Marc’s hands and the crowd advised him to choose Olly, with one audience member shouting “pick Olly” across the studio.

Marc said: “You are both brilliant and what you do and to have two of you think it is good enough for a turn is awesome.

“I think in this case I will go with Olly, we have common ground and that Witham connection.”

Former X-Factor star Olly told the singer he was very flattered to have been chosen over music royalty, Sir Tom.

The Voice viewers were divided over Marc’s decision to join Olly’s team over Sir Tom’s.

Charlie tweeted: “I think the audience wants him to pick Olly #TheVoiceUK.”

A confused Gillian Hudson penned: “So what are the other two gonna do when Marc moves on?! #TheVoiceUK.”

Aishah quipped: “I swear Tom just copied Olly by pressing the button lol #TheVoiceUK.” (sic)

Charlie added: “Yay! So happy Olly and Tom turned. He is such a great voice! #TheVoiceUK.” (sic)

Matt Rose remarked: “This guy is fantastic. So happy he got two turns. Should’ve been four. #TheVoiceUK.” (sic)

Stephanie commented: “He’s chosen Olly over Sir Tom? Says it all #TheVoiceUK.” (sic)

While Sir Tom missed out on adding Marc to his team he welcomed a singer called Clare Cordel who performed Ain’t No Way by Aretha Franklin at the end of the show.

The Voice continues next Saturday at 8pm on ITV.
