Tony stands against misogyny in Hollyoaks as he joins the march for safety
Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) joined the march for women’s safety in powerful Hollyoaks scenes, proving himself to be the ally we always knew him to be.
The chef and landlord, as viewers know, had reservations about allowing his pub to become the headquarters for the march, claiming that Maxine Minniver (Nikki Sanderson) and all those who attended the protest were ‘painting a target on their backs’.
Diane (Alex Fletcher) refused to listen to he husband’s claims and thus attended the march, much to Maxine’s delight, but despite things getting off to a good start, problems arose when a noise complaint was made!
The complainant?
Tony, of course, who was less than pleased to see PC Sam Chen-Williams (Matthew McGivern) give Maxine the go-ahead to continue marching.
Maxine, meanwhile, decided to get to the bottom of why Tony was standing in her way of such an important cause, and the landlord admitted that he feels responsible for what happened in recent weeks, given that incel Eric Foster (Angus Castle-Doughty) – who terrorised the women of the village – is his brother.
What’s more, he is concerned about the people he loves becoming a target of people like Eric if they join the march.

Maxine, however, made him see that none of this was his fault, before reiterating the importance of standing up in the fight against misogny, reminding him that it’s what Verity (Eva O’Hara) would’ve wanted.
Tony ultimately realised Maxine was right and, in powerful scenes, he joined the protest march, delivering an important speech about how the people of Hollyoaks will do whatever they can to ensure everyone in their little corner of the world can make it home safe at night.
Hollyoaks continues Wednesday February 1 at 7pm on E4 or stream the next episode from midnight on All4.
