After a dramatic year of shocking twists and brutal betrayals, the iconic storylines in Emmerdale, Coronation Street and EastEnders have glued us to the telly and pulled on our heartstrings.

From a shock pregnancy, to revenge to murder, things certainly haven’t been quiet for the residents of Albert Square, the Yorkshire village, or the Cobbles.

Whether it was when villain Gray Atkins pushed his wife into a dishwasher full of knives, or when Marlon Dingle’s life changed forever after he suffered a sudden stroke – we have certainly been kept on our toes over the last 12 months.

It was a milestone year for Emmerdale as the ITV soap celebrated its 50th anniversary, marking the occasion with a string of deaths in the Dales as Faith and Liv Dingle, Harriet Finch and Al Chapman all saw the end in shock scenes.
