Eagle-eyed Love Island fans have accused some of this year's singletons of lying about their age.

The first episode of this year's winter series hit screens on Monday (January 16) as Maya Jama welcomed 10 Islanders into the villa in South Africa.

On arrival, it didn't take long until viewers flocked to social media to share their reaction to this year's line-up, with many fans shocked to hear about the ages of some of this year's cast.

Taking to Twitter, fans demanded the show to "check birth certificates" of some of its stars, including PE teacher Kai Fagan as many were adamant he couldn't be 24 years old.

"Nahhh Kai is not 24. Check that birth certificate now," tweeted one critic as another wrote: "Kai is 24???? Was he born in a leap year?"

A third believed Kai was in his 30s, penning: "No way is Kay 24, more like 32, mate."

Another islander under fire was bombshell Tom Clare, 23 – who Maya introduced in the show's last few minutes – as fans also questioned his age online.

"The age of these contestants blows my mind sometimes, especially Tom and Kai," commented one viewer.

Another chimed in with: "Tom, you're not fooling us with your age, mate," meanwhile, one ranted: "Tom is not my age mate, stop lyin."

As the new series kicked off, Maya Jama began questioning the five hunks and five ladies as they get ready for a season of romance.

This year's girls include: Tanya Manhenga, Lana Jenkins, Anna-May Robey, Tanyel Revan and Olivia Hawkins.

And as for the boys: Kai Fagan, Ron Hall, Will Young, Shaq Muhammad and Haris Namani have made their way into the villa.

The couples were finally matched as Olivia and Will, Lana and Ron, Anna-May and Harris, Tania and Shaq and Tanyel and Kai.

However, it didn't take long until viewers heard of the first twist of the season as the arrival of bombshell Tom Clare rocked the house.
