Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos tributes Queen and pays ‘condolences to all Brits’

The billionaire founder of Amazon has reacted online to news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Jeff Bezos, who is according to Forbes currently the world's third richest person, has paid tribute to Her Majesty following the announcement of her passing.

Bezos, who at times has been the world's richest man, said in his tweet: "I can think of no one who better personified duty. My deepest condolences to all the Brits mourning her passing today."

The retail guru made the post in response to a tweet from former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who was one of the 15 Prime Ministers to take the office during Her Majesty's reign.

In his tweet, Brown said: "The United Kingdom, the Commonwealth, and the entire world are joined together in mourning this evening. HM Queen Elizabeth II served this country to the last. I offer my sincere condolences to the Royal Family. May she rest in peace."

The two men join a long line of well-known and influential people who have paid their respects, including the UK's new Prime Minister Liz Truss.

Her 15th and final Prime Minister, Ms Truss said: "We are all devastated by the news we have just heard from Balmoral.

"Queen Elizabeth II was the rock on which our country was built.

"It's an extraordinary achievement to have presided with such dignity and grace for 70 years.

"Her life of service stretched beyond most of our living memories.

"In return, she was loved and admired by those in the United Kingdom and all around the world.

"She has been a personal inspiration to me and to many Britons."

Her opposite number, the Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer also paid tribute, saying: "It is a deep private loss for the Royal Family and all our thoughts are with them at this time."
