A BABY was abandoned on the side of road by a thief after he stole a car outside a home over the weekend.
The tot was discovered unharmed after the incident, which happened on St Attracta Road in Cabra, Dublin, shortly after 7pm on Sunday.
According to Independent.ie, the family briefly left the car with the engine running, leaving their two young children in the back seat.
The thief, who had been watching the couple, took his chance,jumping into the family vehicle and speeding off.
As soon as he got into the vehicle, one of the kids, who is under the age of nine, managed to escape before it sped off.
However, the other child, aged just 10 months, was still fastened in the back.
It is understood after realising the baby was still in the vehicle, he left the child unharmed in its car seat on a nearby footpath before fleeing.
A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating the unauthorised taking of a vehicle that occurred on St Attracta Road, Dublin 7, shortly after 7pm on Sunday 21st August 2022.
"An infant passenger that was in the vehicle at the time was found shortly after uninjured.
"No arrests have been made, however gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry. Investigations are ongoing."

Separately, gardai are seeking the driver of a dark blue/navy Mazda which is damaged after a man in his fifties was killed in a hit-and-run.
The body of the man, 50s, was discovered along the N3 by a road user near Bills Bridge in Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan at 12pm on Friday, August 19.
A post mortem took place and gardai completed a full technical examination of the scene, where it was determined that the man was struck by a vehicle which failed to remain at the scene.
Gardai are appealing to any witnesses or any persons with information to come forward.
They are seeking to identify the driver of a dark blue/navy Mazda 6 which has damage to the left front headlight, front bumper, left front passenger wing, windscreen, and has a missing wing mirror on the passenger side.
Anyone who may have spotted this vehicle, in particular car dealers, mechanics, scrap dealers and garages that may have encountered this car and carried out repairs, have also been asked to come forward.
