  • The building which collapsed is connected to the village’s historic clock tower

A car crashed into a house on a busy road this afternoon, causing the corner of the building to collapse onto the vehicle.

Emergency services attended the crash this afternoon on the A390 at Grampound, Cornwall.

The incident was reported to have taken place on Fore Street at around 2.30pm and is causing traffic delays in the area.

A photo taken by a local witness shows a car under a tons of rubble and embedded in the building, which is attached to the village’s historic clock tower.

The first floor of the property also collapsed.

Police, firefighters and paramedics attended the busy road in the centre of the village between Truro and St Austell.

A member of staff at the Dolphin Pub nearby confirmed that everyone involved in the incident is ‘okay’.

Traffic and travel monitoring system Inrix reported: ‘A390 Fore Street in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to accident between Dolphin Inn Pub and Bosillion Lane. Sensors suggest the closure has been extended. Affecting traffic heading to and from Truo and St Austell.’

A second person, who was at the scene, said that a car crashed into a church in Grampound. The location given by Inrix is where St Nun’s Church stands.

However the photo shared with us appears to show the car has hit a house. Another witness says it is not a residential dwelling but a building connected to the village’s clock tower.

A member of staff at the pub said: ‘I didn’t see the incident, but obviously heard about it. Everyone involved is okay.

‘The incident is about 50 yards away from the pub.’

Devon and Cornwall Police have been approached by the MailOnline for comment.
