Caroline Flack’s mother sends message to Phillip Schofield after he compared himself to late Love Island star – and she accuses ITV of ‘learning nothing’ from daughter’s tragic death

Caroline Flack’s mother has sent a message to Phillip Schofield after he compared himself to late Love Island star.
During an interview with the BBC’s Amol Rajan earlier this week, Schofield said he was ‘broken’ and had ‘nothing ahead of him’ in his TV career after being forced out of ITV two weeks ago.
In his first appearance on camera since opening up about his affair, Schofield was asked how he was feeling and said: ‘I think I understand how Caroline Flack felt.’
Ms Flack, who took her own life three years ago, presented a number of ITV shows including the popular reality show Love Island and the X-Factor between 2015 and 2019.
Her mother Christine appeared on BBC’s Newsnight last night where she showed support for Schofield and accused ITV of not learning anything following her daughter’s death.

In his first appearance on camera since opening up about about his affair, Schofield was asked how he was feeling and said: ‘I think I understand how Caroline Flack (pictured) felt.’
She told Newsnight presenter Victoria Derbyshire she ‘hated’ the thought that Phillip was going though ‘such an awful time’.
‘It’s bad enough when it’s in private, but when it’s in every single paper and first thing on the news. It’s just ridiculous. Wait to see what happens.
‘Let’s hope for the best. I send my regard to Phillip and the young lad, and hope they get over this. Don’t do anything silly. You’ve got your daughters, you’ve got your friends.’
She added that she hoped the young man had someone to talk to.
When asked whether she felt ITV had learned anything from her daughter’s death, she said: ‘No. They haven’t learned anything. They haven’t.’
She added that stars are treated as commodities by TV stations who earn money from them.
‘But they’re not commodities, they’re people. And they’re employed. And if my employer didn’t take care of me, there’d be all hell to pay. And there’s not. They’re just sidelined, and they’re not protected.
Christine said that Schofield was very upset when her daughter died and is now realising what she through.
She added Phil has ‘safeguarded’ ITV by taking on criticism himself and said she couldn’t imagine that no one working at the broadcaster was not aware of something going on.
She questioned whether ITV should have spoken to Schofield more and looked after him and the young man better.
Christine told Newsnight presenter Victoria Derbyshire: ‘I hate the thought that Philip and this young man are going through such an awful time.’
When asked by Derbyshire (pictured) whether she felt ITV had learned anything from her daughter’s death, she said: ‘No. They haven’t learned anything. They haven’t.’
Christine added that ITV treat their stars as ‘commodities’
Eslewhere, Schofield’s comments have left some friends of Ms Flack in disbelief.
One told the Mail: ‘It is absolutely unbelievable that Phil would do this. What a low blow from him.
‘We just don’t get why he would compare himself to Caroline. It came from nowhere, Caroline had her own troubles that even she felt nobody could relate to.
‘So how Phil could is lost to those who loved Caroline so dearly.’
Schofield raised Ms Flack’s name when he was talking about the collapse of his TV career.
He confessed he now had to talk about being a presenter ‘in the past tense’.
Ms Flack killed herself after learning she was due to be charged with allegedly assaulting her boyfriend.
She was distraught at losing her ITV job, which friends say she ‘absolutely loved’.
