A communications officer who works for a domestic abuse charity must pay £200 compensation after she fought police during a drunken ‘animalistic’ bust-up at a friend’s home.

University graduate Jayne Rudd, 30, was detained by four officers for refusing to leave her friend’s home Bowdon, Greater Manchester, in July this year.

During the assault, she bit the hand of one trainee police officer and lashed out at a female officer, while screaming they were ‘racist misogynists’.

A court heard that Rudd’s face ‘turned red’ as she screamed at officers, saying: ‘F**king b**ch come on then. Come on then’ while an officer tried to handcuff her.

During the scuffle, Rudd repeatedly tried to ‘scratch and pinch’ the officers and kicked out at them.

She was eventually taken to a police station.

In a statement, one of the assaulted officers, PC Emma Johnson, said: ‘I have been a PC for over two years and I don’t expect to come to work to be shouted at and assaulted by members of the public.

‘At the time everything happened so fast, if I was alone with Rudd this incident could have resulted in real injuries.

‘Rudd’s behaviour was disgusting.

‘I was worried the trainee officer could have contracted something sinister from her. Luckily the bite did not break the skin.’

Rudd, who works for Olive Pathway, a charity which supports victims and survivors of domestic abuse, admitted assaulting an emergency worker at Tameside Magistrates Court.

She was ordered to pay the trainee officer damages, as well as complete a 12-month community order, 100 hours of unpaid work and pay costs of £249.

Police were called to a property in Bowdon on July 29 after reports that Rudd (picturred) was refusing to leave

Officers were called to an address in Bowdon on July 29 after reports that Rudd was refusing to leave after being ‘very politely’ told to by the occupant.

Prosecutor Miss Hannah Nicholls said: ‘The officers arrived to find Ms Rudd sitting on a sofa in the complainant’s front room refusing to leave.

‘She admitted that she had been drinking repeated that she was in a place of safety and did not want to move.

‘The officers repeatedly told Ms Rudd to calm down and leave the property as requested but she refused to go quietly became physically aggressive.

‘She screamed ‘racist misogynists’ and as PC Johnson said she would be arrested, the defendant’s face turned red and she lashed out saying: ‘f**king b**ch come on then. Come on then’.

‘As the officers attempted to handcuff her, the defendant moved her hands back behind her head so as to avoid restraint and then fell back onto her back on the sofa where she proceeded to kick her legs up into the air.

‘One of Rudd’s kicking feet connected with a PC’s face and she then bit his hand. During the incident, the defendant also made repeated efforts to scratch and pinch the other police officers. ‘

Rudd who had no previous convictions told the court: ‘I’m very sorry for what I have done’

In mitigation her lawyer, Sam Cochran, said: ‘She is well-educated woman who lives at home with her parents and feels very shameful and embarrassed at what happened.

‘She males no excuses for her behaviour and has a high level of remorse and understanding for what she has done. She herself admits there was an element of animalistic behaviour in her conduct.

‘Her background is one that includes some significant trauma and mental health issues.

‘She as been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and psychosis and she says the arrest triggered a reaction based in past trauma.

‘Drink and poor mental health contributed a lot to the way she acted. She has abstained from alcohol since the incident and freely admits her behaviour whilst under the influence can be problematic.

The judge told Rudd: ‘You are not somebody who we usually see and it is clear you have not been in trouble before. We are going to treat this as a one-off offence’.

According to her LinkedIn page, Rudd was educated the prestigious Withington Girls School where fees cost £14,622 before transferring to Loreto Grammar school in Altrincham.

After graduating in English at Birmingham University she completed a Masters Degree at Manchester Metropolitan University.

She joined Olive Pathway last year after working as a communication officer at TransPennine Express.
