China and Russia ‘would bring back low-tech warfare to win WW3’ warns expert

Enemies of the west would try to limit its ability to use technologically advanced weapons in a head-to-head war, an expert has said.
Despite having large military research operations of their own, in a WW3 situation, the likes of Russia and China would look to make “a high tech war into a low tech war.”
That’s according to Professor Peter Lee, a military drone expert at the University of Portsmouth.

He believes that while the technological weaponry of both countries is substantial, they are unlikely to try and go toe-to-toe with NATO in terms of manufacturing the most cutting-edge killing machines.
Russia’s approach to war has been laid bare during the hideous conflict in Ukraine, giving experts like Professor Lee an opportunity to better understand how Putin’s army deals with advanced western weaponry that has been shipped in to help the defenders.
“It seems from the weapons Russia and China are developing such as hypersonic missiles and [what] they’ve been using technology [wise] on the battlefield in Ukraine [that Russia has been trying to] to disrupt the electromagnetic field.”
He sees Russia’s use of weapons able to disrupt magnetic fields as an indicator of the kind of path its military technology is likely to take.

“It seems that the Chinese and Russian weapons are, at the moment, focusing on technology that will disrupt and degrade Western technology rather than trying to outperform the West in the development of that advanced technology.
“The reason for that is that traditionally Russia and China rely on mass – on loads of people with basic weapons to overpower an enemy.
“So, they would try to reduce a high tech war into a low tech war.”
In trying to make a war full of advanced weapons more like the great wars of the past that relied on footsoldiers and more basic technology, Professor Lee believes both nations would hope to tip the balance of war in their favour.
“So the kind of weapons and the cyber things they are doing would be designed more to reduce the high technical capability of NATO and the west, US and UK. Rather than try to outperform them in those areas.”
