Cops deliver Domino’s order to baffled couple after arresting delivery driver

Police had to deliver a Domino's order to a confused couple after they arrested the delivery driver meant to bring their piping hot pizza.

Hungry couple Tony Robson and husband Paul had rang the pizza chain after waiting a half hour, hoping to cancel their £46 order.

Deciding instead to throw together some fish finger sandwiches, the pair were saved by the bell, or rather a police officer at the front door with their order in tow.

One way or another, Domino's stayed true to their slogan, "we deliver", although utilising the emergency services was quite the unexpected turn for the couple, whose delivery driver had been arrested.

The pizza-chauffeuring officer explained their original driver had been booked and arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

Toni, recalling the event, said: "While my husband and I argued over who would be making the fish finger sandwiches we were going to be having instead, there was a knock at the door.

"To our surprise, it was the police. The officer asked my husband, 'Have you ordered a pizza tonight?'. He replied saying: 'Erm, yes we have.'"

Toni explained on, recalling their blue and white delivery man saying: "Well, we have just arrested the delivery driver on suspicion of drug driving, so thought we would bring you your pizza as I would be really annoyed if it was my pizza just left in the back of his car."

Police have since confirmed that a 46-year-old man was arrested for drug driving and has been released pending blood results, Metro reported.

Even then, the officer who delivered the pizza could work on his timeliness, as Toni noting: "It was slightly cold but still a lot better than the fish finger sandwich we would have been having."

A police spokesperson said: "The arresting officers delivered the pizza as it was en route to the cells. The driver was released pending blood results."

But not everyone is happy with this slice of do-gooding, with Joe Ventre of the TaxPayer's Alliance slamming it as a "waste of police time" that will "leave a bitter taste in the mouths of taxpayers."
