Homeless billionaire Elon Musk was pictured outside of one of close friend Larry Ellison’s Malibu mansions on Thursday.

The world’s richest man was pictured clutching his son, X Æ A-12, while wearing a black Tesla t-shirt reading ‘Autopilot,’ black pants and black sneakers.

It’s unclear if Musk was staying Ellison’s home.

The pictures come on the same day that it was revealed that the twins that Musk shares with his employee, Shivon Zilis, were conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF), according to five people familiar with the situation.

The 36-year-old has since told some of her colleagues that she was not involved romantically with Musk, 51. Zilis gave birth to the twins in November 2021.

In March 2022, Grimes said in an interview that Musk saw X Æ A-12 as his ‘protege’

Musk told TED’s Chris Anderson in April: ‘I don’t even own a place right now, I’m literally staying at friends’ places. If I travel to the Bay Area, which is where most of Tesla’s engineering is, I basically rotate through friends’ spare bedrooms’

In the same interview, Musk said that he doesn’t even take vacations. He said: ‘For sure, it would be very problematic if I was spending billions of dollars a year in personal consumption, but that is not the case

The billionaire is known to be close to Ellison. In December 2018, Ellison, the founder of Oracle, was appointed to the board of Tesla.

The inclusion of Ellison put one of the world’s richest people with experience building a startup into a successful company on Tesla’s board.

Charles Elson, director of the corporate governance center at the University of Delaware, questioned adding a friend of Musk’s and another director with no experience at an industrial company like Tesla.

‘Why would you put a friend (on the board) if the idea of the two independent directors were to be objective,’ Elson said. ‘Investors who were hoping for two newly objective directors who could stand up to Mr. Musk would be rather disappointed by the choice.’

Ellison served as a director at Apple at a critical time for that company – in the five years after Steve Jobs returned to the helm of the then struggling computer maker in 1997, helping oversee one the greatest turnarounds in corporate history.

Two months earlier, Ellison said in an interview: ‘I think Tesla has a lot of upside. I am not sure how many people know, but I’m very close friends with Elon Musk, and I’m a big investor in Tesla.’

Their friendship was solidified in December 2020 when Musk tweeted that he went to the Hawaiian island that Ellison owns to ‘seek advice.’

He went on to criticize those who write stories that are critical of Musk saying: ‘I loved all the articles about how Elon doesn’t know what he is doing, the pictures of him smoking dope.’

Ellison continued: ‘You’re telling me he’s an idiot. I just want to know who you are. Why should I believe you, as opposed to my friend Elon? We’re out here watching this rocket land, which I think is really cool, and you’re there in front of your Apple Macintosh, and typing up an article saying Elon’s an idiot.’

Combined, Musk and Ellison have a net worth of over $350 billion.

Meanwhile, Musk has spoken on numerous occasions about his apparent homelessness.

He told TED’s Chris Anderson in April: ‘I don’t even own a place right now, I’m literally staying at friends’ places. If I travel to the Bay Area, which is where most of Tesla’s engineering is, I basically rotate through friends’ spare bedrooms.’

Musk went on: ‘It’s not as though my personal consumption is high. I mean, the one exception is the plane, but if I don’t use the plane then I have less hours to work.’

While in June 2021, Musk tweeted that his home was a 375-sq.-foot 1 bed rental in Boca Chica, Texas, close to SpaceX’s headquarters known as Starbase.

He wrote: ‘My primary home is literally a ~$50k house in Boca Chica / Starbase that I rent from SpaceX. It’s kinda awesome though. Only house I own is the events house in the Bay Area. If I sold it, the house would see less use, unless bought by a big family, which might happen some day.’

At the time of writing, Musk is still in the midst of a legal battle with Twitter after he pulled out of his $44 billion acquisition of the social media giant at the 11th hour.

The South African’s home frugality is nothing new.

Google co-founder Larry Page was quoted in Ashley Vance’s book: ‘Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future’ as saying of Musk: ‘He’s kind of homeless, which I think is sort of funny.’

Page continued: ‘He’ll email and say, ‘I don’t know where to stay tonight. Can I come over?’ I haven’t given him a key or anything yet.’

Following a 2018 interview with CBS News, where Musk said that he regularly slept on the floor of his Tesla office, a GoFundMe page sprang up titled: ‘Buy Elon Musk a Couch.’

According to Mashable, the page’s blurb read: ‘Elon Musk is transforming our world to run on sustainable energy and use sustainable forms of transportation. Lately, he’s been sleeping at the Fremont factory in an effort to improve Model 3 production.’

It goes on: ‘This is the couch he is sleeping on As a community, we cannot let this stand. Let’s band together to buy Elon a new couch to sleep on!’

In 2020, he said in an interview with the New York Times that he was staying with a variety of friends after selling his $29 million mega mansion in Los Angeles.

Musk said: ‘It was actually, in retrospect, kind of good because you end up rotating through friends’ houses and you catch up with them and stay in contact, whereas these days, I have been staying in this strange Gatsby-like house, what I call the haunted mansion, and it’s a bit bleak, to be totally frank.’

He added: ‘The house itself is beautiful but, you know, it’s like Wayne Manor without Alfred.’

A December 2019 Wall Street Journal feature detailed the nine homes that Musk owns or owned in the Bel-Air section of Los Angeles.
