Denver, Englewood, Littleton under a severe thunderstorm warning
4:35 p.m.: At Denver International Airport stormy weather is creating some travel turbulence, with 51 flights delayed between 2 and 6 p.m., according to FlightAware.com. Inbound flights to Denver are being held at origin airports until 4:45 pm.
4:25 p.m.: A special weather statement has been issued for a widespread section of the metro area, including Denver, Commerce City, Thornton and Westminster and extending east onto the plains. The weather service said to expect penny-sized hail and 30 mph winds with stormy weather through 5 p.m..
Parts of the metro area, including Denver, are under a severe thunderstorm warning in effect through 4:30 p.m.
The warning, posted by the National Weather Service, includes Glendale, Englewood and north Littleton.
Scattered thunderstorms will develop Thursday afternoon and continue into the evening, the weather service said. Stronger storms could produce large hail, around an inch in diameter, winds gusting to 60 mph, heavy rain and frequent lightning and thunder.
