Disturbing twist after airport worker David Renner died by being sucked into Delta plane engine | The Sun

THE death of an airport worker who was sucked into a plane engine in San Antonio has been ruled a suicide, authorities say.

David Renner, 27, died on Friday after he ended up inside the engine of a plane at San Antonio International Airport.

The horror unfolded at 10.25pm as a Delta flight from Los Angeles was taxiing to a gate.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office said on Monday that Renner suffered fatal blunt and sharp force injuries.

The National Transportation Safety Board initially launched an investigation into the death but changed course after it was deemed a suicide.

"The NTSB will not be opening an investigation into this event. There were no operational safety issues with either the airplane or the airport," a spokesperson said.

Renner was working for Unifi Aviation, a company that Delta Airlines contracts for help on the ground, family told CBS affiliate KHOU.

"We are heartbroken and grieving the loss of an aviation family member's life in San Antonio," Delta Airlines wrote in a statement.

"Our hearts and full support are with their family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time."

Unifi Aviation employs more than 20,000 workers across 200 locations, according to its website.

Courtney Edwards, a 34-year-old mom, suffered fatal injuries on December 31.

Another American Airlines employee was killed on April 20 in a horrific accident at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas.

The man was driving a ground services vehicle when it crashed into a jet bridge, leaving the driver with traumatic and fatal injuries.
