Rescue dog owner who lost an arm after the pet bit her is suing RSPCA for £200,000 claiming the charity failed to tell her the animal attacked two women previously

A dog owner who lost her arm when the pet attacked is suing the RSPCA.

Police officers tasered American bulldog Kiwi three times and battered it with their truncheons before it let go of 49-year-old Joanna Harris’s arm.

Ms Harris, from Crowborough, East Sussex, claims that the RSPCA failed to let her know that the dog, which was later put down, had attacked two women just eight months before it set upon her, The Sun reported. 

When she couldn’t shake Kiwi off her arm in September 2021, she went into her garden and asked a neighbour to call 999.

In the 20 minutes it took the police to reach her house, Kiwi also tried to bite Joanna’s neck.

She had been fostering the American bulldog in the hope of fully adopting it.

She said: ‘The pain was excruciating.

‘I knew I was in a bad way but nothing prepared me for the news my arm would have to be amputated.’

The RSPCA has denied it was liable for the attack, and Joanna’s claim will be heard at the High Court in London.
