The cost-of-living crisis has seen people’s disposable income shrink, but one luxury appears to be getting larger: the size of our wine bottles.

Rather than buying two bottles of wine or champagne for a table, friends are ordering magnums because they are better value – and in some cases improve the taste of the alcohol.

Magnums hold 1.5 litres, compared to a 750ml bottle. 

There is also a move towards jeroboams, which hold three litres.

Ben Newton-Syms, of Chelsea pub The Phene, said: ‘In summer our rosé magnums fly off the shelf.’
