Easter Monday forecast: Bank holiday weekend ends in a washout… and it's going to get worse with wind warnings | The Sun

THE long Easter bank holiday is due to end on a wet and soggy note – and things are only going to get worse.

Most parts of the UK are in for an unsettled day today with rain and strong winds, according to the latest Met Office forecast.

Eastern England will see localised heavy rain clear through the morning although this will turn into blustery showers for most Brits.

Those showers are expected to last into the evening and there is a risk of hail and thunder as well, according to the Met Office forecast.

Temperatures are expected to be around normal for the time of year but it is likely to feel colder due to the brisk winds.

The showers are due to continue into the night in places but they will become less widespread away from the south west, the forecaster predicts.

The winds are also expected to ease overnight but things will then turn chilly and there could be frost in places.

Southern areas are forecast to be hit by showers early on Tuesday while more widespread, locally heavy rain will push north across England, Wales and Northern Ireland by late morning.

As the day wears on it will become windier with gales developing.

The Met Office already has a yellow weather warning in place for Tuesday afternoon which covers all of Wales, most of western England and some central parts as well as eastern Northern Ireland.

Things only get worse on Wednesday, while the Met Office still has that weather warning in place it has also issued another one which overlaps across the south west and parts of south west Wales but stretches across England’s south coast as far as Brighton.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly said: “A change is on the way for the UK weather as the dry, settled, and in places warm conditions are replaced by a more unsettled weather pattern from Sunday afternoon.

“This change happens first for Northern Ireland and Scotland, where Sunday afternoon rain will be replaced by blustery showers overnight and into Monday.

“Elsewhere, a mainly dry, but increasingly cloudy day on Sunday, with rain arriving for parts of Wales and southwest England by evening.

“Rain spreads east across other areas into Monday, with showers following.”

Most parts will be hit with rain and showers although these will ease off through Thursday.

Southern parts will be hit with rain again on Friday while there will be scattered showers elsewhere.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates said: “The focus for the medium-range forecast is a low-pressure system that’s likely to develop just to the southwest of the UK, potentially bringing a period of high winds and heavy rain late on Tuesday and into Wednesday.

“There’s a distinct possibility of some disruptive wind for parts of the UK, especially in southern and western areas, as well as potential for heavy rainfall and even some snow, though the latter probably confined to high ground in the north.

“Although subject to a large degree of uncertainty, gusts of wind could be in excess of 60 mph in some exposed upland or coastal regions, with around 35-50 mm of rain possible for some areas.
