Ebay down: Users report problems accessing auction site

eBay down: Thousands of frustrated users across the globe report problems accessing auction site

Thousands of eBay users are experiencing major technical issues with the auction website this morning.

According to DownDetector, which tracks website outages, over 2,000 worldwide users reported problems searching for items and logging into their accounts.

A representative for the company on Twitter confirmed that the issues are affecting ‘most eBay members.’

Sellers are complaining that their store is showing zero listings, and incorrectly showing their products as sold out.

‘eBay is killing our sales and owes us compensation,’ one frustrated seller wrote online.

eBay sellers flocked online to share their frustration at outages which they claim are affecting sales

According to DownDetector, 76 percent of the reports of outages are coming from the company’s website, while 22 percent are coming from its app.

Responding to customer complaints on Twitter, the company’s @AskEbay account confirmed that ‘this is an emerging site wide issue which IT are aware of.’ It added that it is ‘aware of an issue with search results not showing.’

Replying to another customer, the account said: ‘I’m afraid we don’t have an estimated timeframe on when this will be resolved but as this is affecting all most of our eBay members, we have this on a top priority list to be fixed so we’ve faith it’ll be resolved soon.’

The firm has not provided a reason for the outage.

eBay users are rushing to social media to demand answers, with some claiming that the technical issues are affecting their ability to make sales and ship items.

‘My store shows no listings and says “we are sold out”. Can’t even edit the store,’ one user commented on the DownDetector reporting page.

‘NONE of my 780 listings are showing in my Ebay store view,’ another seller wrote, while another complained bulk shipping was down: ‘Can’t get it to provide the shipping labels for the 12 items on my Bulk shipping page.’

Shoppers also expressed their frustration at the problems with the e-commerce site.

‘What’s going on? Have you been hacked? Nothing is working on app or website. Watchlists gone and search function not working,’ one user wrote on Twitter.

‘eBay is such a joke I feel bad for sellers who have auctions ending when the app crashes for 3-4 hours and no one can bid on the item resulting in it selling for a fraction of what they expected,’ another commented.

For most casual sellers, it’s free to list their items on the auction site, but if you list more than 250 items per month, you’ll start paying a $0.35 insertion fee per listing.

But if an item sells, eBay keeps a cut of the sale – usually 13.25 percent, plus $0.30 per order.
