Elon Musk's ex says artists can use her voice in AI-generated songs

Elon Musk’s ex Grimes says artists can use her voice in AI-generated songs – but will need to split the profits with her 50/50: ‘I like the idea of open sourcing all art and killing copyright’

  • Grimes, 35, offered artists to use her music in AI generated songs as long as the proceeds are split 50/50
  • Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, claimed that nothing was off-limits aside from songs that include ‘baby murder’ or ‘sex and violence’

Elon Musk’s ex-Grimes told artists they can use her voice in AI-generated songs for a fair split of the royalties – days before she left her record label.

The Canadian singer, 35, offered her fans to use her music ‘without penalty’ on Sunday in exchange for a 50 percent profit – following an AI hit of a song performed in the voices of Drake and The Weeknd.

Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, said that nothing was off-limits and her ‘ultimate goal has always been to push boundaries rather than have a nice song.’

While Grimes is open to the possibilities of AI, her next steps are unclear following her unexpected split with Columbia Records, according to Billboard.

The Shinigami Eyes singer appeared to be excited about the future ahead and AI offerings.

While copyright may be an issue in the AI world, Grimes informally reassured artists wouldn’t be penalized for experimenting with her voice.

‘I think it’s cool to be fused w a machine and I like the idea of open sourcing all art and killing copyright,’ she wrote.

Grimes acknowledged the uncertainty of AI and the latest boundary technology has crossed in the music world.

‘The point is to poke holes in the simulation and see what happens even if it’s a bad outcome for us,’ she added.

While Grimes claimed that nothing was off-limits, she later claimed that copyright may be an issue if her music was used for ‘toxic’ purposes.

‘Ok hate this part but we may do copyright takedowns ONLY for rly rly toxic lyrics w grimes voice,’ she wrote.

Grimes explained that artists would ‘really have to push’ for copyright to be enforced, especially in regards to sex and violence.

‘Like no baby murder songs plz,’ she wrote.

The singer added that while she hates to add more rules, she also prefers to avoid political topics.

The song, which is titled Heart on My Sleeve, has received widespread play on TikTok and Twitter, TMZ reported, adding that the track ‘was created with nothing but the use of AI programming.’

Grimes shares a one-year-daughter, Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, with tech billionaire Elon Musk. Last month, Grimes revealed she calls her daughter Y for short.

She and the Tesla CEO are also parents to 2-year-old X Æ A-12, nicknamed X, whose name was later tweaked to X Æ A-Xii because California law forbids the use of numbers in a legal name.

Elon has eight other children – 19-year-old twins Griffin and Xavier (now Vivian Jenna Wilson) and 17-year-old triplets Damian, Saxon, and Kai – from a previous marriage with Justine Wilson.

They also previously welcomed a son named Nevada Alexander Musk in 2002 but they died of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) after only 10 weeks.

More recently he welcomed twins with Neuralink director of operations and special projects Shivon Zilis in November 2021 before the arrival of his second child with Grimes.

He and Grimes started dating publicly in May 2018 but experienced an on-again, off-again relationship until they finally split after the birth of their daughter in March 2022.
