Fire breaks out at motel on Colfax in Aurora and police fire shots at the scene.

Shots were fired by police and a fire broke out at a motel on East Colfax Avenue during a barricade and standoff incident.

Firefighters and police responded to the Ranger Motel in the 11000 block of East Colfax Avenue on Tuesday where a fire was brought under control, Aurora Fire Rescue said at 11:43 a.m. on Twitter.

Driver were urged to avoid the area between Colfax between Kingston and Lima streets.

At the same time, police were at the motel trying to contact a person who was barricaded in a room.

“Shots have been fired by the police,” the department said at 12:37 p.m. on Twitter.

A man was taken to a local hospital, police said. No other injuries were initially reported.
