Five injured, including pedestrian, in two-vehicle crash in Aurora

Five people were injured and hospitalized Friday in a two-vehicle crash in Aurora, police said Friday.

Four of the injured people were in the two vehicles, and a fifth person, a pedestrian, was also taken to a hospital with injuries suffered when he was hit by debris from the crash.

The crash happened about 2:05 p.m. at East Iliff Avenue and South Sable Boulevard, police said in a 3:08 p.m. tweet. Westbound lanes of Iliff were shut down by the crash.

The driver of a car was making a left turn from Iliff onto Sable when the car was hit by the driver of a pickup truck who had run a red light, police said. The pickup truck rolled several times before coming to a stop about 300 feet from the impact site. Speed is cited as a contributing factor in the crash. Seven people were in the two vehicles, and three of those people declined medical evaluation.

Two people in the vehicles suffered critical injuries and two sustained minor injuries, police said. The pedestrian’s injuries were described as minor.

The westbound lanes closures were expected to last for about three hours, police said. An investigation is ongoing.
