Flat-hunters outraged at listing for 'prison cell' one-bedroom apartment 'like something out of a horror movie' | The Sun

FLAT-hunters have been left appalled by a one-bedroom apartment up for rent that "looks like a prison cell".

The drab studio flat in Melbourne, Australia, features white brick walls and dark grey flooring.

Pictures show a double bed in a tiny room, with bright lights fixed to the wall and ceiling.

Another photo shows a long thin room with a sofa facing a small flat-screen TV on the wall.

The listing was posted on Facebook marketplace by someone looking to transfer their lease.

While they boast the flat is within "walking distance to everywhere", future tenants will have to fork out $3 (£1.60) each time they use the shared washing machine.

But social media users were horrified by the prospect of living there for £750 a month, describing it as "something out of a horror movie".

One Reddit user commented: "Is it better to just go to prison? At least no need to pay rent?"

Another added: "I think we have nicer prisons, to be quite honest."

Others who have visited the building the apartment is in branded it "horrible".

It comes after renters were left horrified by the state of an apartment a woman pays more than £1,000 a month to live in.

She shared the countless issues with her flat in Sydney, Australia, on TikTok as the country's rental crisis rumbles on.

The woman, who goes by @dooperfiend on the social media platform, shows how her bedroom is right on top of the kitchen, with no dividing wall.

To add to the bizarreness, the fridge can be seen stacked on top of the tumble dryer to "save space".

Continuing with the chaoticness of the kitchen, she then shows how the ceiling is being held together by tape, while the sink is propped up by a bottle of curry powder.

But it doesn't end there, with the kitchen bench badly broken and awful views of her neighbour's gardens.

Meanwhile, a landlord was slammed for listing a tiny makeshift room branded "smaller than Harry Potter's cupboard".

The "room" – consisting of a single mattress on the floor surrounded by blanket walls – was put up for rent on Airbnb for £34.50 per night.
