'Fraudster cowboy builder' among UK's 'most wanted' after 'fleecing furious customers out of thousands' | The Sun

AN ALLEGED COWBOY builder who is said to have taken thousands of pounds in upfront payments has been named as a wanted man by Crimestoppers.

Steven Fidler is now wanted by several police forces across the UK in relation to a string of building jobs which were not completed.

Crimestoppers said that Fidler used several unregistered company names to approach customers on online bidding sites between November 2019 to January 2022.

The charity said that Fidler would then ask for money to be paid to him through bank transfer or in cash.

It said he would often claim that more work had to be done, before abandoning the job.

He would begin work but then start to bombard customers with excuses before leaving the job.

Crimestoppers said: "Fidler has quoted for the building work for each of the complainants and this has been accepted, with contracts being drawn up either verbally or, in lots of cases, written.

"Fidler has asked for a large portion of the costs upfront and the complainants have paid thousands of pounds in bank transfers and cash.

"He has then started the work for each complainant, often recommending further work they need doing, and asking for more money.

"His attendance has been sporadic, frequently making excuses as to non-attendance."
