Devastated friends have paid tribute to a ‘wonderful’ gym worker who was found dead by police yesterday after her car was discovered abandoned.

Thea Newton, 29, was last seen at around 1.30am yesterday at her home address in Warrington and Cheshire Police confirmed they found a body in their search, which is believed to be Ms Newton. Her next of kin have been informed.

Since the news of her death broke last night, hundreds of people have paid tribute to Ms Newton on Facebook, saying she was died ‘too soon’.

Her friend Alex Standring posted on social media with the caption ‘absolutely devastated’.

One person said: ‘So many young lives being lost how can you ever start to make sense of all this. Heartbreaking news my thoughts are with her family and friends.’

Ms Newton, who is originally from Clitheroe, worked at Absolute Fitness in Clitheroe and her friend Alex said: ‘I have known Thea for a long time and I always saw her in the gym’

Another person commented: ‘So sad she was my good friend and I can’t believe it I’m still shocked. Thank you for being my friend and I’ll miss you.’

Ms Newton, who is originally from Clitheroe, worked at Absolute Fitness in Clitheroe and her friend Alex said: ‘I have known Thea for a long time and I always saw her in the gym. 

‘She was amazing with my brother who has moderate special needs and would keep an eye on him.

‘Thea was a wonderful person and I am thinking of her close friends and family. It was such a shock to all of us.’

Her car was found parked near Sunflower Drive and officers, along with a rescue team searched the area. 

Police also searched the Trans Pennine Trail and the surrounding areas in Warrington.

Cheshire Police launched a major appeal earlier on Friday as they searched for Thea Newton, 29

Police had previously appealed for the help of the public to trace Ms Newton, saying they were ‘increasingly concerned’ for her welfare

Inspector Daniel Richardson said before the discovery: ‘We’re increasingly concerned for her welfare and are currently searching for her. 

‘If you are out on the Trans Pennine Way and see a woman fitting this description, please contact us. 

‘Her family and friends are extremely worried about her and just want her home safely.

‘I’d also appeal directly to Thea, please let us know you are okay, we’re all very worried about you and want to get you back to your family.’
