Glam influencer stung by deadly man o’ war jellyfish posing for beach selfies

An influencer found herself stung by a deadly man o' war jellyfish while she was posing for beach selfies has shared details of her terrifying encounter.

The singer and TikTok influencer, known as Juliette, was relaxing with family and friends in Joao Pessoa, Brazil, when she came face to face with a deadly stinger.

At first believing it to be a jellyfish, Juliette later discovered it was in fact the terrifying Portuguese man o' war, a devilish beast whose sting can be fatal.

Juliette found her pinkie toe stung by the deadly ocean-based beast, complaining at the time (December 27) of a jellyfish sting to her millions of fans.

Commenters on her TikTok clip were quick to point out her encounter was not with any ordinary jellyfish but that of a potentially fatal stinger which left her in agonising pain.

Portuguese man o' war, otherwise known as a physalia physalis, can deliver a powerful stinging strike capable of killing fish and humans alike.

Speaking of her encounter, Juliette said: "My people… because the jellyfish didn't catch me today.

"You don't know the biggest one. We went to take some pictures, I went to the edge of the water and a jellyfish grabbed my foot.

"Luckily it was only on the pinky toe, it didn't burn much. But think of the pain, I had never been burned so badly. Oh Jesus, oh my God. Nobody will believe it. It was little and was very small, but if it had been big, I don't know how terrible it would have been."

An image of the jellyfish was then provided by the terrified singer, who continued: "Then, [a friend said] 'put pee, you have to p*** on it'

"And I'm [like] 'just put something there, for God's sake.' Anyway, I put everything I found at the time. Then, the person on the beach was going to p*** on it. How? Come here, Arthur, pee here."

Experts have since said the singer was lucky that nobody urinated on her, as the sting is unlike a usual jellyfish encounter.

Urinating on a man o' war sting will likely make it much worse according to biologist Claudio Machado, who said: "It has probably resolved already, and it must have been light, fortunately.

"But in situations like this, the area should be washed abundantly with 5 per cent acetic acid (vinegar can be used) without rubbing the area.

"In severe cases, seek medical attention urgently. Do not [urinate]. No way. This can, in some cases, aggravate the accident.

"Just like you shouldn't wash with fresh water or use lemon or soap that many people do in an attempt to improve. Jellyfish can cause serious accidents, and these homemade techniques can make the situation worse."
